For those who live in NC and bought a Sonata.... where did you buy it? I only ask b/c I know a few folks over at Keffer Hyundai.

As for the Sonata.... very sweet car!! I've been trying to get my wife to test drive the Genesis as one of the potential repalcements for her A6.... but alas she's still not quite ready to spend that much money on a Hyundai. The Sonata, now that's something I'd buy for a commuter!!

Depending on the family's needs, I think the upcoming UD Elantra might make an even better commuter. Great little car.

Live in NC but bought our '11 sonata in Pa. We have been dealing with this dealer since 02 (besides hyundai they sell honda, acura and suzuki) and became friends with the owner and numerous employees.

The Sonata is a very nice family car, but I wouldn't say its fast. I'm pretty sure your TL can take it no problem... The Sonata wasn't made by Hyundai to target the sport or luxury competition. It was made to target the family sedan competition. Ex: Accords/Camrys.
Nope, and Hyundai's ongoing issue is that their suspension tuning has been a mixed bag. Some magazines have published reviews stating that Hyundai's suspension tuning is a bit behind the competition, as it is either underdampened, unrefined or too stiffed--depending on the model. I drove a last-gen Sonata and felt the suspension was just "off" and I had similar feelings about the ride on a current Genesis-- the back just seemed unrefined and underdampened.

I don't care what others think...but the Sonatas are very nice vehicles.

I rented one for a trip to Vegas....was doing like 85-100ish in fucking 110 degrees....AC was still cool, not a single problem with the engine, and the rice was smooth as my TSX (smoother than my G35.)

Hyundai is doing great things, fan or not.

Generally speaking, most new vehicles are fairly solid. The question is: what can we expect after five or so years of use. I suspect that the current crop of Hyundais (as opposed to earlier generations) should age well nonetheless. But, time will tell for certain.

With all vehicles-you get good and bad-Our first Hyundai was a 88 Excel. It lasted over 200,000 miles until it was totaled by a driver that ran a red-light. We never had any problems with it. We traded our 05 Hyundai Elantra GT with 100,000+problem free miles for our '11 sonata. Must say the paint on the elantra had very few paint chips. One other thing we also owned a 05 Honda Civic ex-se that was crap-one problem after another-sold it-

Indeed, I owned an 87 Excel GS which I purchased used in 92 and was fairly solid. Though the only repair I had was a clutch replacement, it's reliability seemed to be an exception at the time. MANY folks were not as fortunate as you or I.

As my first manual tranny car, it worked well for me. But as I became more comfortable with driving an MT, I determined that 68hp was not going to do it for me and traded it for an 89 Plymouth Colt GT which had double the horsepower. (..and in hindsight, I should have kept the Colt but that's for another discussion.)
