2011 Sonata

My dad just got a new job in a town about 30 miles away so he had to trade in his 11 year old intrigue for a brand new 2011 sonata. hyundai has come a long way! i love the lines and contour of the body. very roomy interior especially in the back. love the drivers console where everything lights up blue. BUT to the important factor.....the driving. He bought the SE package that comes with 18in alloy rims that would look amazing on my 2000 TL and sport suspension and handling. It has the sportshift setting like the TL and is a 5 speed with paddle shifters. Just putting it in D is the econo mode and gets crazy gas mileage with enough pep to get where ya need to go pretty quickly. Put it in sport mode and yeah...i was surprised how much zip that car had. Its 0-60 could easily keep up with my TL and even put me in the back of my seat. It still has enough power to get from 45-75 in 2 seconds which really impressed me. In contest with my TL i would say it might get it off the line but the TL would come to overtake it in 3rd gear no doubt. Maybe one day my dad and i will race them

I test drove one looking for a car for my mom. Nice power for a four cylinder. Hyundai has definately come a long way. The dealer would not budge anything off the MSRP because he says he gets a truckload of them every week and they all sell very quickly

However, I personally do not like the styling, but thats just me.

When comparing to its competitors in the Accord, Camry, and the Mazda 6, I'd take the Sonata any day over those competitors, but I'm not sure how they'd age. Initially when I saw the pics back when they were first released, I was surprised, but I'm pretty indifferent about it now.

I saw them for the first time in person a few days ago, when I was out in Boston/Providence where it seemed like there was a Sonata at every stop.

I haven't seen one of those in my part of California though.

We own a 2011 Venetian red 6MT sonata, bought 7/26. Wished it would offer more options with the MT (sunroof, power seats, etc). The paint quality is alot better than our tsx. It is a comfortable, rattle-free car after 4,000+ miles. It lets you know when to shift.

I really like the sonata, and its gonna threaten the accord and camry soon enough. Especially with the turbo thats coming out, if its not out yet.

edit:I wonder how it drives compared to the current gen accord. My mom has one and it pretty much eats the dust of my 2000 tl. Although she does have the V6 and some nice Michelin tires. But still it handles better than I thought it would. Although there is a lack of steering feel, imo

they really do need to make it RWD. it would almost be too much fun

its about time Hyundai made a car worthwhile. A lot of people I have talked to that were looking for new cars all seemed interested in this.
I wish my dad had waited for the turbo but oh well, its still a nice car.

Let's just see how it ages.

^^ The picture above... Holy shit.. Didn't know a Sonata can look like that.

The Sonata is a very nice family car, but I wouldn't say its fast. I'm pretty sure your TL can take it no problem... The Sonata wasn't made by Hyundai to target the sport or luxury competition. It was made to target the family sedan competition. Ex: Accords/Camrys.

Sonata is good.

Kia Optima is better.

Both great cars....but Hyundai should have put its badge on the Optima, and the Kia badge on the Sonata.

I was quite impressed with the Sonata too when I test drove it. It was a little big for me and a little bit of a budget stretch, plus I take annoyance at the fact that in order to get a sunroof, you either have to buy the Limited or buy Navigation on the SE. I really wish it would be a stand-alone option on the SE.

Very impressive car, though. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking at the standard Altima/Accord/Camry/Fusion/Malibu set.

I've seen quite a few of them on the roads here in Central NJ. I have to give Hyundai credit for establishing a lineup of lookers.

I dunno, he has a 2000 tl, just like me. And I'll say they aren't that fast haha. In a straight line, they are relatively decent in turns. I like it more than my moms accord, although her car can take turns faster than my tl. But I like my tl's steering better, gives better feedback than the accord.

It's a 6-speed. You might be thinking that it's a 5-speed because when you switch from D to Sportshift mode, it drops down a gear and displays 5th as an automatic response for more oomph.

Keep an eye on the TSBs and potential recall for the steering column shaft, though, at this time, they seem to be isolated, assembly-related problems rather than a widespread design flaw.

Either way, congrats to your dad for the new ride! My fiancee and I are going this week to possibly pick up a silver Limited for her, too.
