You have chosen wisely.

Well, I don't know about wisely, but you certainly picked the better-looking car.

Congrats.

Was this ever really a choice? Seems like a slam dunk easy decision to me. Then again I have a man crush on the S4.

yes, my 10 years in service in an audi dealer qualifies as talking out of my a$$......

Please provide some insight to support this. I'm really curious to hear because of the thousands of cars on the Audi Forums, very few have problems like that. And these are people that DO push their cars harder than others do because of modifications, taking them to the track, etc. So it's safe to assume that these individuals would be the first to experience problems with the motor, etc. Suspension maybe not as much if they swapped parts out, but still. It's not as widespread as you claim them to be.

I guess based on your argument 6spd tranny failures for Honda was a drop in the bucket compared to Audi.
I don't think hard driving is an issue at all. I think they tolerate that incredibly well. and while I'm not going to pick through too much info, it they are so wonderful then why is there over 40 problem related tsb's for an '06 2.0T A4? I do know that does not mean every car will have every problem, but it does mean alot of cars will have many of the problems.

It seems as though they believe the Audi of today is still the same Audi of the late 80's, early 90's
no, they are most surely not. they've fixed many issues, but now they have entirely new sets of issues. back in the '90's we never had engine block problems, now we do. just two weeks ago I had to replace an engine is a 2009 A5 with 10K miles for a worn out cylinder. and when I called audi to get approval, they said this is happening on as new as 2010 cars already as I thought it was actually only '08's doing this. we now have camshaft bearings oil starved in the 2.0T belt motors. etc. other than oil sludge, we never had theses issues years ago........... the B8 cars have been leaking water into the interior and I've called audi again..... they say, yeah, they leak from everywhere and they can't tell me what's common..... and then why are they recalling the coils for the second time???? all the way to 2007 cars now if they are more reliable than they used to be?

but anyways, you guys keep loving them, it works for me. my money won't go there yet.

Here's the thing with TSBs, all they are is a formal acknowledgement that a problem exists and that the manufacturer is willing to address the problem from their end so that the owner of the vehicle doesn't have to. Sure the increased number of TSBs could be attributed to more problems on the A4, but the '06 A4 you speak of was the FIRST model year for the B7 platform, it's a no brainer that there would be more TSB's for the first model year of a new platform for a vehicle. Since you work for Audi, how many TSB's were released for 2008 model Audi A4s?

But if TSB's are your qualifying mark of degradation of a companies reliability, Here are some interesting numbers that may sway the support you want to prove your point:
2001 Acura CL: 123 TSB
2003 Acura CL: 100 TSB
2001 Acura TL: 142 TSB
2003 Acura TL: 115 TSB
2002 Acura RSX: 110 TSB
2005 Acura RSX: 15 TSB
And just to verify your numbers and prove my point of first model year and last model year of a vehicle, they use the TSB info to update the build process to avoid future problems, duh!
2006 Audi A4: 48 TSB reported by the NTSB.
2008 Audi A4: 26 TSB reported.
All of these results were obtained using the NTSB website

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr.../tsbsearch.cfm

So do you still think TSBs are an indication of poor quality?

tsb's are a sign of chronic problems. whichever manufacturer has them. provided they are problem related, no information related. that A4 has far more that are simply fyi type tsbs....... how many of the old acura's were problem related vs. information? maybe most of them? I don't know. I don't defend them from being trouble free. but I do know I see an awful lot of audi's in here several times between each maintenance for various concerns. some are not. sorry if first hand isn't good enough. thus why I generally don't bother commenting.

we have now sidetracked from my comment that the guy's car really didn't have that many problems. that's all my comment was. what did he have? 5 issues in 72K miles? that's pretty damn insignificant. he thought it was bad, but really, it wasn't.

Riiight. B/C you clearly made reference to that for everyone to see in your original post. Nope, you waited until you were called out. You also were not the only one in this thread who we were referring to...

Here's the thing: when you're working in a service department you're almost always dealing with cars that have problems. It doesn't matter if it's an Acura, Audi or MB service department. If you've been working at Audi for that long, you've probably used to seeing nothing but these problem cars. I wouldn't be surprised if Honda/Acura gets cars in for problems of similar severity, although I don't deny that Honda engines are likely to be more reliable.

I agree. I went online and paid to chat to a master mechanic for audi's before I purchased the car. He worked on Honda's for 18 years and a few years with Audi. He assured me there was no comparison between the vehicles that the A4 was a great car. After I mentioned sludge problems etc he clarified all my questions with the right answers (I knew the answers I was just making sure he knew his stuff). I knew I was making the right choice after that.
Could my car have problems? Of course, but so did my Acura. I think they are both on par nowadays with reliability.

I have a few months until the car comes in so I am researching tires/rims right now. I would prefer to just get the stock audi 17" rims and OEM tires and use the 18" setup after spring comes in. Lots of variables such as rim weight, offset etc. I think I would prefer to get some of the above mentioned used from someone if possible.
