2008 cadillac cts and beyond
an official gm rep came to my dealership on tuesday to train some of us sales consultants. anyways, he mentioned that the all new cts will soon be offered in coupe, convertible, wagon (probably only in europe), and "v" varieties. the cts is by far the best sedan cadillac has built in decades, so this seems promising.

I still haven't seen a new one. Pictures I've seen show a nicer interior than any other GM product currently out. I can't wait to see the specs on the '09 V. Should be out next fall. If it doesn't have at least 500-525hp then I'll probably be steering towards the MB C63 AMG to replace my current V.

Lets not forget that it's size competes w/ cars like the E-class and 5-series...while it's price competes w/ the C-class and 3-series. Both those size-competitive cars weigh even more than the CTS.
I think Cadillac is planning on moving the CTS into the STS market and bringing in a smaller, more nimble entry-level Caddy.

The 2008 CTS with the optional DFI(direct injection) V6 w/300 HP weighed about 4020 lbs, acc. to Autoweek several weeks back. That may have been an actual weight (as opposed to curb or dry weight-- if there is a difference).

Whether the CTS competes with the 3 series or 5 series is not a matter, it's still pretty heavy, and therefore its performance is not up to par with 335i or IS350 (not sure about 5 series though). But still, I think the CTS is a very decent car, Cadillac has been improving a lot. 10% less weight and it would be true sports sedan.

Car & Driver weighed the CTS-- 4032 lbs, almost 100 lbs. being the optional sunroof.
And I like sunroofs...
My guess is that automakers like to use bare-bones, empty cars for their curb weights so that the weight changes a lot once options and liquids (gas, coolant, etc.) are included.

well, it's been tested by car and driver already, the link is posted too here.
http://www.caranddriver.com/roadtest...nce-page2.html
0-60 in 5.8s,
1/4mile in 14.6@97mph
that's considerably slower than IS350/335i/G35/6MT TL/TL-S. Also keep in mind that the engine is sourced from Holden, its NVH is not as good as the aforementioned competitors.
But the CTS was tested and tuned in Nurburgring, thus its handling is up to the level with the European sedans, which is very good. Its grip, stability, balance, all are good; the only area lacking is the agility, due to the weight. Anyways, the auto gearbox are pretty good too.

That's not exactly a definitive measure of the CTS' capabilities. The first Edmunds test of the IS350 had it leisurely strolling to 60 in 6 seconds flat. The last R&T test of an IS improved that number to 4.9 seconds. Different tests=different results.

didn't realize how big the cts is.
i guess the sts will be more of a 7series/s-class competitor?
anyhow, i'm very impressed with the looks of the new cts. and the interior is gorgeous.

^ the cts interior volume is about the same, but it does have a 2" wider track for improved stability. additionally, the front seats use "thin-seat" technology to allow more knee room for rear passengers and even the back seats use the same technology to free up more space in the trunk
