Actually, the Aston Martin DB9 was the first thing that popped into my head.

Other than the happy face grill, I like this one better!

Can a Ferrari nut answer this question for me:

Some Ferraris I see have the sheild on their front fenders, some don't. I've even seen the same model with shields and without.

Is that like an option to be added by the owner, or do the sheilds actually indicate something (like a trim level, etc).

it's an option. it doesn't indicate anything other than, the owner wanted it.

History question for anyone in the know, has the shield always been available on the road cars? I was under the impression that the shield used to only be employed for the Scuderia logo (with the SF) and that its use on road cars is a recent thing. "Recent" being relative to Ferrari's age, of course.

That's some advanced Ferrari history there.. not sure on that - it would require some digging. Maybe litig8 knows...

here's some further info on the shield option, straight from the horse's mouth:

Ahhh... see that's different. For some reason the pcitures of the 612 appeared to me as if it had the shield logo without the SF. Now that I see that option is the full Scuderia logo, it makes more sense.

I was thinking something similar: "This car will go the way of the 944"

It just don't say, "I'm a Ferrari"

That one is hot though and I would pimp it.

great car but I rather get the F430 or 575M if I want something similar to scagli since its powered by V12. Not really fan of that design.
