It looks better than all the other Bangle styled Bimmers! I still think the E36 3-series looked the best!

I like it as well..

People talk shit about the Banglarized design, especially the trunk hoods, but .

I see Acura RL's trunk looking very similar to BMW's, but I guess that can be just me..

It's rather

Not particularly good, but not as egregiously bad as the 7-series and the 5-series.

It's better than the other banglized bimmers but definitely worse than the E46 in terms of appearance.

I think this is what flame surfacing was supposed to be originally. I like how toned-down it is. This is a BEAUTIFUL application...on the exterior.

The interior, on the other hand, is down right boring. But so is the Z4's. So is the 5er's. So is the X3's. Bangle has a hard time making interiors look good. Whatever happened to the classic waterfall dash board?

Just wondering if it is impossible for a FWD car, such as the TSX, to move the front wheels as far forward a la RWD cars (e.g., 3-series or IS300)? Would this not improve the look and even the handling dynamics of the car?

BTW, I voted yes.

Is it just me or does BMW just barely change the cars with each redesign? Now the new TL is a redesign from the old one. The BMW looks like it just got a freshened. Maybe it is just me, I'm not a fan of BMW.

Bangle had to tone things down to their bread and butter model. Like many other things, the devil will be in the details.

They do subtly "freshen" the look, but it makes a huge difference.

I think it's ok, not great but not bad either. Given the concept photos I've seen, the production model is a bit disappointing.

And the interior is just bad.

You are correct, though some evolutions are more radical than others, this is one reason they lead the residual value charts for luxury brands. This is also even more obvious with Porsche and also goes a long way to helping their retained values.

I don't think it was Bangle who designed 3, although his "philosophy" still made through..

I read he got promoted to a higher position, even though I think he deserved a demotion.

EDIT: Even Car and Driver criticized the current model's design (too many curves) when it came out, but now everyone loves it.. Time will tell whether Bangle theme was a success or not.

You are correct...

Adrian Van Hooeydonk (sp?) actually penned the 6-series and 3-series. They were both significantly toned down from the original 7-series look, which got BMW into some hot water.

Yes, but Bangle still had to sign off on it. And so did the BMW higher ups for that mater.

The rear is terrible. The interior so-so. Everything is too far from the driver.

Not sure what you mean about too far from the driver. The interior is not far from the E46 and though the E46 is not as cockpit like as the E36 was everything is really close. At least it seems that way in my M3.

The plastics on the interior of the new 5 series look like they were made by Ford, so I have low hopes for the quality of the 3. I'm sure it drives amazingly well, but I think there are better choices on the market. <cough>TSX<cough>

There's speculation on another board that the new IS might debut right along side the new 3 er at Geneva in March.
An IS250 for $28K might be some tough competition for the 3er and TSX.

the new 3 is really gorgeous, and although many ppl hate the 6, the 6 series is a mean looking car, as well as the z4. the 7 is bulky, but it delivers , and the x5 still looks awesome, espeically the 4.8 . The X3 ive got nothing to say, but although the new BMW design def takes getting used to, i think they look great.
