2003 m45
Tons of features, gobs of power, but no style, whatsoever. This thing is a major sleeper, but that doesn't pull in the consumer--it pulls in the enthusiast.
Further, Inifiniti never played in this segment before--this was their first entry. It was a last minute attempt to just simply be in the market (in other words, they did not try very hard). Nissan just was searching their JDM market for a vehicle that could hopefully walk the walk, and saw some potential in the Cedric. But just like GM searched for an SUV to throw into Saab's lineup, Nissan gave only a mediocre product. Mediocre doesn't sell in the midsize luxury segment, where people can buy fine automobiles like the BMW 5er, MBZ E-class, Audi A6, or Lexus GS.
The Infiniti was blah, and tried to be everything for everyone.

How can you like the I30 more than the J30?! The J had a more powerful 6 and didn't look like every Max at the supermarket. IMHO, you're mistaken.
P.S. On the subject of the old M45, I could be convinced if it would depreciate enough. Its powerful Q45 sourced V8 is very intriguing. However, the last time that I was looking at them (maybe this past summer?), they still commanded an insane $30K or so. No thanks for a car that Infiniti substituted "boring" for "styling."

i never liked the j30's...i thought they looked like the old altimas.
personally, i was never fond of any of the infinitis until the g35 coupe came out. the new m's are beautiful (despite the rear tail lights, which i can overlook). i'm anxious to see the new q45...any news on that?

So, I've been looking into getting one of these the last couple of months, but the exhaust underwhelms me for such a beast of a V8. Does anyone know if I could convert the exhaust system to a dual exhaust system with some free-er flowing mufflers? I think quad tips would look excellent on the back of this car.
Not even Stillen has anything for this car...
I know this isn't the place to be asking, but, well, you guys seem to know the answer for everything

Interior quality could have been better (compared to an 96 LS400). But it's pretty pimp.
Check it out w/ the Impul F55 kit.

Ops,......forgot to add something. I am just saying I like the I30 more, and its not like there is some big performance difference between the two cars. Maybe in the twisties the J30 would be better with the RWD??? For straight away speed, the fastest I have ever seen the J30 get quoted at was 8.3 seconds and thats for a 97,...older ones in the 9's. http://www.nissannews.com/site_libra...30/specs.shtml
The I30 I have seen in the high 7's (ex 7.7,7.8 etc) and up at 8.0 flat.

So for arguements sake,....probably about the same straight away speed at best. Are you guys saying because the J30 is RWD its better? That is the only reason I can see,........unless you like the styling. Where I live its better to have a FWD car anyway.

West6MT - Who knew there was a closet J30 contingent on this board?! At least your I30 was the Touring model, err Maxima SE model. Other than the motor (I knew it put out more hp, but had no idea is was light in tq - nice stat to quell the J camp), I've always liked the J because of it's "odd" styling. Like the BMW M Coupe, I suppose.

Ya, see I dont like the M coupe styling. I think its like a love it or hate it type of thing. There are moments (although BRIEF) when I think,.........ya maybe its alright,....but then see the profile and remember it looks like a boot/shoe or something lol.

This is one of my favorite cars of all time. I don't understand why it didn't sell more, either.
It is HOT.
