2002 C32 AMG... reliable?

hey guys, im searching the market right now for a cl-s replacement... i wasn't really looking to buy a used car but i found a pretty nice deal for a 2002 C32 AMG with navi. silver with black/red interior, very clean. The thing is I was looking for an AWD car due to the massive amount of snow I get in upstate NY, but i figure with snow tires and traction control on the AMG should be fine. I also heard that benz's reliability has gotten pretty crappy over the last few years, i was wondering if it was the same with AMG benz's? I would want the car to be atleast somewhat reliable.

I would appreciate any insight u guys might have on the car. Thanks

If you're worried about driving in the snow, I'd stay away from it. Also, maintenance is gonna be pricey..

My guess is that it wont be especially reliable, but IMO with snow tires and traction control, your fine in regular snow falls with rwd. In upstate NY where snow is a daily occurrence I would stay away from rwd because you will rarely be able to open the car up, and that is going to put a huge damper on the fun factor of the car

in snow you can't really open up with any car, unless you have a rally car i guess but even still thats kinda retarded to do, attacking corners in the snow at high speed? lol not for me.

i never really driven a RWD car with snows, i've driven an LS430 with regular all seasonals and that was hell, im assuming that snow tires do a lot in terms of traction.

in the winter im not interested in going fast so much as i am about getting from point A to point B. but my experiences with driving with RWD + snow is making me apprehensive...

what other choices do i have for a car that handles well in snow with some luxery, somewhat reliable?

oh, and i dont like any scooby's... just not my taste.

My bro has one ... gonna dump it before the warranty goes on his lemon. If you do a search on any thread talking about a 2002 C32 ... I'm chimed in. Been to the dealership at least 10 times for various things ... sway bar link not properly torqued from the factory, numerous electronics issues, ABS sensor malfunctions -- they probably did about C$10k in parts and labor so far (factory covered).

I wouldn't take my bro's C32 even if he gave it to me. (I would flip it for the cash and get a Lexus or Japan-assembled Acura, however).

i think the later models 03 & 04 had more bugs tweaked out. the 02 had its problems even after updating the software etc.

the only way i would but it if you can get an extended warranty direct from Mercedes themselfs and get the dealer to include it in your price if you really like the car.

Otherwise...i'd stay well away.
