2002 Accord EX 6cyl

So what are all of the negatives about a 2002 Accord Ex 6cyl? If someone you knew was going to buy one, what would you say to make them think twice?

weight to power ratio isn't that hot either........Those transmissions are by FAR worse than the 5spd autos that us Acura users have to deal with........I had a '98 accord that I sold for my Cl type S and that thing ate 3 transmissions within 11K miles

with the responses thus far. A possible tranny issue and the J30A1's lack of power may be the only two negative aspects of the 6G AV6. With regard to power though, the J30A1 does have some Comptech support which seems to go a little ways in waking up the AV6's performance (although it would not be cheap).

Sidenote: A nice custom job would be to get a high mileage 6G AV6 and swap in the J32A2 powertrain; Hence, it would have the power of the TL-S without the weight penalty.

EDIT: NOPI has the Comptech S/C kit for $3,500.63. LINK; so it is not as costly as I thought....at least not for forced induction.

And you can get the better-looking, better-equiped, more powerful 02 TL for the same price.

Thanks guys, thats what I thought. My girlfriends sister is looking at getting one, and with all the tranny problems my 03 TLS has I wanted to see if it was as bad or worse. I didnt know that the Accord trannys could be actually worse.

1998-02 accord transmission problems (I4 and V6 although V6 is BAD)

1. Differential bearings are crap (tapered style) If your axles seals leak then 99% of the time it is caused by bad bearings

2. insufficient 2nd gear lubrication causing 2nd gear clutch packs to bite the bullet

I thought the 2nd gear thing was an issue exclusive to the 5-speed Autos?

There's one person on another forum I frequent who has about 110k on his 02 Accord V6, along with another who has more than 150k on his 02 Accord V6.

Supposedly, 2002 was the year that some "updates" were implemented to correct transmission failures but I haven't bothered to verify that.

Are these the same "updates" that our late build 03 TLs have also?

Totally different trans (4spd) The 5spd autos problems are pretty much caused by piss poor quality control issues and the 2nd gear problem is related to the shaft and not the clutch packs.

The 4spd auto is just a bad design...............

The 4spd auto in my 96 Accord EX-V6 was bulletproof. I never had a problem with it and even did manual downshifts with engine rev matching to boot. 130,000 miles on it and it still drove fresh. But I don't have it anymore.
