1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse or a 2001 Acura RSX
I was wondering what car most people would prefer for a teenager around 16 years of age. The Eclips GS-T has a turbo and pushes about 220 hp and the RSX-S has 200 horsepower with out a turbo. Which one do you suggest that i should get

I wouldn't reccomend cars like that for someone just learning to drive. I would look at something a bit less agressive.
If I were choosing between the 2 for myself I would think about what I want out of them.
eclipse, easy to mod and make silly fast, nowhere near as reliable as the NA acura. AWD very nice in bad weather. I wouldn't buy the ecplise unless I wanted to mod it. I wouldn't buy the ecplise unless I could afford to mod it. And by afford, not only buy the parts and install or pay for install, but be ready to deal with parts failing do to modding.

the eclipse has more options as far as tuning. But Also that motor needs to be beefed up before you tune too far. it has a very low threshold before you start bending rods and blowing head gaskets.

My son will be driving in 3 short years and I'm already considering what to get him. (I'm considering the Civic, Sentra and Tiburon -- My son's considering the Prelude, Eclipse GST/X, ITR)

I would go with the RSX-S... For one reason and that is the turbo. You won't know how hard the person before you drove it and if you're younger you will be running it pretty hard. And the turbo will be the first thing to go. I think you'll get more out of the RSX and have less worries and problems.

I had a 98 GST...loved the car. not a single problem at 25k miles when i sold it for a truck. Although it did rattle like a biatch. The GST had tons of torque steer...I would def. get the GSX if you go that route. The RSX is nice too...and VERY moddable...
Remember resale though; GSX will be worth almost nothing in a few years, and the RSX will hold its value.

Personally, after owning 2 Mitsubishi's both of which had tons of problems ... I would go for the RSX. I'm sure there are plenty of people who haven't had any problems with Mitsubishi's before but for me I don't think I'd ever buy another Mitsubishi in my life.

From my experiences with Mitsu's I'd probably never own one. All though 4G63 motor in the GST does hold its own. The quality is in the rest of the car sucks. And to fix things on a Mitsu you always have to take it to the dealer because they require tools that according to Mitsu, they only have. I say RSX JMO...

Keep in mind that tuning a turbo car is way different then tuning a N/A car. I found that out when i bought my dsm about 3 months ago.

However, there was little changed with the 4G63T motor between the two generation besides the switch from a Mitsubishi turbo to a Garrett unit. Internals do not need to be touched until approaching 500 HP if everything else has been accounted for.

Both run low 15s/upper 14s stock; add I/E and the RSX-S will do mid-14s consistently while the GST will run upper 13s.

Check it out, it gives a good break down of the models and hp.
Import tuner did a power pages on the Eclipse GSX, and it gained 106 hp for only a 1000 bucks. Now that's what you call power for you money.

Incorrect. They have the same HP. Def different at the wheels, cause of the drive train, but same at the crank.
