1999 Bonneville

Hey guys,

My grandfather has a 99 Bonneville that he can no longer drive due to health reasons. It's been garage kept and is in pristine condition, best of all it only has 85k miles on it. He was awesome enough to give it to me for free which is a Godsend and will allow me to potentially dump my car note.

Do you guys have any opinions or knowledge of this model pontiac? I just put some fresh rubber on it and it's been running fine for the past few weeks. It's been sitting in the garage for about 3 years now, having been started once every so often.

They're good highway cruisers

Is it supercharged?

Since it's been sitting, I'd get the oil and filter changed ASAP and have the rest of the fluids checked, too. Also have the belts checked as well for any drying or cracking. I'd drive it...free is a great price.

Oh....and pics, too!!!

Did it sit for three years on the tires? May be flat spotted.

My Grandmother had a supercharged one and it was a fast, sick ride!!! She never had any problems out of it... As long as you dont dog it, it will last for a long time... I would try to keep it garaged though, b/c alot of sunlight after years of being garage kept, might cause the interior to break down... just IMVHO...

I agree that the free car is the best one!

Sadly I don't have the supercharged version. But I will definitely oblige your wishes and get some pics up asap.

I'm not well versed in car mechanics but would it be hard to plop a supercharger in it?

My parents had an '88 and I got to drive it back in high school. It was a fun car, from what I remember of it. The paint was shitty, but other than that, I think it was a fairly solid car until it got higher up in mileage.

Big Pontiacs =

I don't know much about the car, but bonus points if you got a front bench. my dad had an '86 6000 LE with one and I loved it. Nothing like riding shotgun in a baby seat.

I doubt it, but its not worth it. You didnt get it to go racing or anything tho, just love it for what it is.

Same here, although, I have to admit, I have seen some that are very cleanly done. Granted, that's not most of them, but there are a few where they clearly put some thought and effort into it. Even if something's not my style, I have to give credit where it's due.

Free.

Trust me, I most likely wont do a thing to it but put 35% tint on it and keep her running well. Although... I might get an itch just to have a bit of fun with her.

oh crap I just saw that vinyl top it looks like they took a big tarp from their backyard and stitched it on

The fact that some people think they have good taste in cars is laughable. I mean, I'm Mr. To Each His Own but jeez, your car is ugly as FUCK

No I haven't but I guess cus the car is black that it'd look alright. Sad thing is, I don't know how to do it.

Buick 3.8 FTW.

My mother has an '01. It had the leaking intake manifold. Not sure if that's an issue on the '99.

Get the Dexcool out of there asap to avoid this problem.

Give it a good 10w-30 or 15w-40 and it will live a very long life.

Other issues were constant battery cable issues causing it to stall. A word of advice, if you ever have electrical issues with the car, spend the $200 on brand new OEM cables instead of having an unreliable car. Once the problems start they won't stop until you replace the cables.

HVAC blower motor went out. Very easy and cheap replacement. The HVAC controller went out causing no air to come out of any vents even though you could hear the blower motor trying to push air. Not so cheap. The second replacement unit went out too. At that time we manually routed everything through the main vents with a little going through the defrost to keep the windshield clear during winter.

Overall it's a very reliable and comfortable car. The Buick V6 has a lot of torque for cruising. I raced my father as we were all coming back from dinner (I guess it's all the years or racing the GNs but when we line up randomly at a redlight there's going to be a race no matter what we're driving). The Bonneville pulled my TL to 50mph before I could go around it so it's not that slow even without the supercharger.
