what do you guys think . I know you cant tell much by the information provided, but in those pictures, it looks really good for a 23 year old car. I'll be going in for a test drive 12/03/05, and will definately bring my mechanic friend and pen n' paper to jot down the VIN and run a Carfax report. I'm not expecting much for $300, just a car that I can drive 10 miles a day, max (usually 2-5).
Can anybody give me a reality check? I know this is too good to be true/
Thanks
Mike

forget the carfax, for $30 it should run for at least a couple more years.
make sure the car is cold when you start it, just to seee what color smoke comes out.
if it is a 5 speed, to check the condition of the clutch touch the front end of the car to the wall.
put in gear and try to go forward, if it stalls out, good. if not then the clutch is close to replacement.
try to smell the oil, you can usually tell if there is gas or other things are in the oil that shouldnt be.
check all windows to make sure they work, also doors.
there is so much you can do by circling the car a few times.
shake the front tires to check inner and outer tie rods.
to check the cv joints, go to a parking lot and turn the wheel all the way in one direction and drive in a circle, any cracking you have worn joints. don't forget to turn the wheel the other way and do the same thing.
check, windsheild washer fluid pump and wipers to make sure they arent burned out.
i can usually tell if a car needs more work than i want to spend sometimes even before i test drive it(not cosmetically)
you may need tires and brakes right away, so 200-250 for that

finally, a car that has decent approval rating on this board
the biggest obstical is my parents; who are extremely against used cars. In this case, I can see them saying "$300 is a complete waste; it wont run, etc..". I'd be making every single payment, but thats not enough for them. Guys, how much do you think insurance would cost? Thanks.

for you and that car?? maybe 900 a year, prob less but you are 18 so that is when the anal raping occurs
it is a great 1st car, there are better cars but if you are ambitious about it, have at it
i bought a 1980 civic wagon w/o driving it for $100, it needed 2 tires and a manifold to pass inspection, but 350 later.
ran well for me and then my cousin blew it up when i sold it to him for #300
