07 Type S 6mt or 07 G35 Coupe
I've been reading some of the TL vs G35 comparison threads, in order to help me decide between a 2007 TL Type S 6mt and a 2007 G35 6mt coupe. I realize these are very different cars, but both cars appeal to different parts of me equally - which makes the decision so hard. I'm eyeing the few remaining leftover 07's as the large incentives satisfies the bargain hunter in me.
What I l like about TL: (not necessarily in order)
-Honda feel - Having driven an 88 Acura Legend during my college days and 03 Honda Civic EX Coupe after college, I've come to enjoy the driving characteristics of Honda's.
-Performance
-Interior Quality
-Value
-Practicality in terms of ownership costs and interior space and 4 doors
-Styling
What I like about G35 Coupe (the old one)
-Peformance
-Styling that grabs me by the balls and makes me forget about the impracticality of the G, the high ownerships costs (the 19 inch tires for example), the cheap interior, all of the great qualities of the TL
Essentially, my Economics trained side of my brain is telling me to go with the TL, while my opera loving side of my brain is telling me to with the G. Help!

I'd go with the TL.... I like sedans.

hmmmmm you almost kinda answer your own question... Personally, I like having the extra room... IF I had to pick between these two... yeah, I would still rather take the TL-S despite the FWD... (and I'm an Infiniti owner )
I have to admit... the TL-S still gets my attention... especially the black ones... can't miss those quad pipes...

Go out and drive both.
Depends on how you drive also. Honestly a TL-S would be a little more suitable as a daily driver since it has 4-doors. In terms of sheer driving fun though, nothing beats a powerful yet composed RWD car. If you never have and never will drive hard enough to truly see the difference between a FWD and RWD vehicle then don't even consider the drivetrain platform of the G35 coupe as a plus.
Another thing to consider is if you're planning to mod the car for performance or if you like to mod your cars. If that's one of your main goals, G35 hands down. A RWD platform with a powerful engine from the factory is always better than a powerful FWD platform. If your main goal is 400+whp then it would be silly, not to mention annoying and more expensive to get a TL-S.
Now if this were a comparison between the 2008 G37 and 2008 TL-S then its a hands down, no contest decision for the G37. Cheaper, probably more fun to drive, more powerful, and really has styling that grabs you by the balls.

I prefer the looks of the G35 vs. the G37, but the interior of the G35 does not appeal to me. I would only get the G35 over the TL if I didn't need the room and wanted more of a performance/RWD type of car. However, if I wanted back seats, nicer interior, then I would pick the TL.

I'd forget about what everyone else is telling you and hit up each dealer for a long test drive. Sit in the cars, feel the materials, drive them, etc.
If cost of ownership is also a concern, consider the cost of insurance, gas, the size of tires (replacement tires/fuel economy), the warranties, the length of time you plan to keep the car (beyond warranty?), read a variety of info regarding reliability, and even (privately) ask a few of the mechanics in the shop about the problems they see, etc.......Make your decision from there.

X 2 (or X 3?) on the test driving advice. See which car feels better to you.
When I test drove the G35 6MT, I hated the unnecessary heaviness of the clutch (but had no issues with the shifter, which some car mags complained about). Then I drove a G35 5AT and disliked the exhaust noise audible in a semi-lux car. The TL felt lighter, was quieter and seemed more refined dynamically at regular driving speeds.

I would go for the TL-S. I have test driven and considered a G35 three seperate times over the past 5 years and each time I bought something else. When I would test drive the G, I would expect it to feel fast than it really felt. Not sure why (maybe too refinded or too heavy), but it never felt FAST...rather just quick. I really wanted to fall in love with the G, but it never really worked for me.

^---worked for me!
Honestly though, that's a very difficult decision. You need to weigh the pros and cons of each car, and test drive them both. Then, sit down and really take a stab at which works for you. That's the only way to really go about it. For me, it was between an '05 G35c or an '04-06 TL because of my budget. Simply said, the G35 was for me.

^^ "OEM 19" Volks" I still don't get why all G owners with the 19" Rays wheels call them Volks...
Anyways, I'd get the TL-S, but i'm a little biased. However, I did work at Infiniti for a while...but you really have to test drive them both to really make up your mind. I had a G coupe for a day while my car was in our bodyshop and I wasn't really impressed with any of it. Interior felt cheap, bose system sucked compared to the TL's, and it didn't really feel that much faster than my TL. It handled nice, but with the suspension setup I have in my car, I wasn't wow'd by it.

TL-S = sexiest 4 door in it's class
07 G35 Coupe = best looking 2 door in it's class...
lucky bastard... good luck with whatever you choose, can't go wrong.
btw... if it makes any difference, for every 1 TL Type S, i see 5+ G35 Coupes.

I've test driven both in 6 speed form and the TL is by far the smoother, slicker one. In the end both are crazy fast for the street so all 0 to whatever times is not important unless you have the world's best radar.

my roommate has a g and i have a tl. in the g, the bose system is painfully pitiful and it drinks gas like a motherf. still, with everything factored in, i'd say just decide if u need 4 doors or not.

Sorry, new to the ride and people told me they were Volks, but now I know they're Rays.

If I had to pull the trigger on any of the three mentioned (G-coupe, G sedan or TL-S) then I would opt for the G35 by a small margin.

I would imagine the markdown for the G35c to be higher (%age-wise) than a TL-S, if both are '07 model years.
But as so many have attested to, you gotta weigh financials (insurance, maintenance, gas, etc) along with the 'enjoyment' of the car. Two totally different cars with different purposes.
One thing not mentioned ... how many people will be in the car, typically? It is gonna be 95% you + 1 passenger or is it you are the DD and have to chauffeur a bunch of people every weekend? If it's the latter, then definitely the TL-S. But if it's the former, then maybe lean toward the G35c.
You know the G35c will be higher cost to maintain due to higher gas prices and insurance. Now ... if you're gonna keep this car 'a while' (ie 5 years+) ... then that's a very important decision.
Good luck with how you decide.

I couldn't agree more.. I test drove both cars this week.. because i am having the same delima that you are .. which car to buy.... The G37 is super sexy fast RWD coupe... and i mean as far as looks goes.. its really hard to beat the coupe.. However when i drove the TL-S i was really impressed .. i would say its equaly as fast, you get more room.. more options and the TL-S is much smoother.. it just feels like a more refind car over the G37 .. The TL-S give a great bang for the buck, but the G37 just looks sooo soo good.. I dunno stil cant decide .. sorry i was probably no help

Man TL-S are so sexy, especially with the quads. And G35 is also so sexy, hard choice...hard choice...I might go with TL-S, even though I used to own a G35, but in terms of sex on wheels, G35 has more potential, once you put on some 19 inch volks and lower it, it is so unbelievably hotttttt

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
Get what is right....
I think it's kind of like this: You go to the library to study, and the girl at the same table with you is cute, has her hair pulled back, glasses on, etc... You start talking with her and she seems like a pretty good one, one that you could spend a lot of time with....
Then in walks a sexy cheerleader type. Her hair is perfect, a body to die for (flat stomach, perfect hips), wears your favorite color lipstick, and she leans right over to you (as you stare down a real nice cleavage line) to ask for some help with her "homework" (after giving your new friend the evil eye). What's a man to do?
Bottom line: What may be sexy is really high maintenance: Don't let the blood flow south, get the Acura and be happy. Take the G35 out for a spin, but buy the Acura.
