05 TL Manual vs RX8 manual(queston)
Who would win in a straight line...no curves?
By how much (car lenghts)?
I know it all depends on skills of driving the car....but lets just say both drivers were the same in that department.
My buddy has an 06 RX8...I wanna know by how much he would win (if he does).....

RX8 isn't that fast, if you're a good driver you can take him by 2~3 car length by 100mph.
Race safely though.

The 0-60 time for an '04 RX8 (MotorWeek) is 5.9 seconds. A manual TL should be able to take it in this run. And in the quarter mile, a manual TL should clean his clock at a best of 14.3 seconds at 99 MPH.

Power shifting is shifting VERY fast, using your body weight to throw the shifts. You use the clutch, but you keep your foot planted in the throttle the entire race.. i.e., you do not remove your foot from the gas while shifting. If you don't know how to do this right, DO NOT DO IT WITH A TL. These cars are not made like the American supercars of the mid 60's and will not take this kind of abuse. You are likely to destroy the shifter in the first few shifts and will definitely due a hard job on the drive train.
Stick to speed shifting and avoid power shifting.

you should beat him easily and I mean easily 2-3 CL to 100 if you don't shift that well. if you shift perfectly probably 4 CL's. christ I have wasted a few RX-8's MT's on the highway in my 99 TL(not stock).

You should take the RX-8, RX-8 will probably take you on 1st gear, but you will be able to catch up at 2nd, and pass him at 3rd... i say about 2 car lengths
Most of TL speed come from Top end...

My best friend just came back from his honeymoon (after having a fairly expensive wedding/reception) to find out his 04 RX8 needed a new intake manifold (read: $1,300 repair bill).
He wants out of the 8 NOW and is in search of a LGT Spec B!!

FYI to most, speed shift and power shift are the same thing, interesting take on the definitions on R&T this month.
Being an old school 1320 kinda guy I find it impossible to drive in a straight line in anger and not do "no lift shifts" but the tranny in my manual car is slightly stronger than a TLs.
The no lift shift is tough on synchros, albeit tough on every part of drive train. In all honesty the small time advantage (maybe .1 per shift compared to a good drivers lift shifts) is rarely worth it in the street. It is rare a street race or "grudge match" at the track is won or lost by .3 unless the cars are prepped for the occasion and the drivers skill is very similar.
In all honesty from what I have read and seen this will be a much closer match than some thing. The RX should get out of the hole much better and the TL should reel it in after the 1/8th, in fact again "magazine" racing the 8 should probably prevail given equal drivers, most mags have the Mazda as quicker in the 1/4. The key to winning outside of the small matter of driving the car would be to play the TLs stronger suit and get a longer than 1/4 run or a run from a roll.

racing in a straightline in a rebadged accord makes you feel good especially when you know the other car is a car designed for handling and balance.
the neon SRT-4 can spank a TL as well

When I was running my '66 396 Chevelle, I never power shifted.. I only speed shifted that car (and all my other ones, too). Power shifting is very hard on the drive train and best left for non-daily transporters since such can leave you stranded.
