From '05 TL to '12 G37's

If you have been reading my other posts, you would have seen that I started to become very frustrated with my TL and finally considered getting rid of it. After considering many cars, I finally decided on the G37. I originally was looking at preowned, but happened to be at an Infiniti Dealer during a end of the month special on the '12 models. Was looking for a 6MT like my TL, but just too hard to find and also saw that the auto's got slightly better MPG, so I settled for an Auto, Sport, premium, Nav Think I did pretty good on the price. MSRP was $43,805 and and got them down to $36,400 + TTL. They gave me $12,300 for my TL which is a fair deal considering CarMax offered $13,000. By trading it in to the dealer I got about $700 in tax savings so it worked out to be about the same. Really love the car; very quick and the technology is greatly updated from my 05 TL. Bluetooth audio is very cool and I like the hard drive as well.

So without futher aideu here are some pics of my new ride!

sorry for the different resolutions, some were taken with my phone and the other were taken with my saleman's phone.

This is the 1st batch of pics. I'll post the final batch tomorrow (will focus on interior)

Very nice. Your TL was a baby...59,7xx miles. My 06 had 107,4xx.

Enjoy your new car. She is beautiful.

Thanks yall. More pics coming tomorrow. Just got in the house about an hour or so ago; the salesman came by my house to "officially deliver" the car and go over most of the car's features in my driveway after I got home from work. He also delivered the manuals and the extra key fob. He didn't get a chance to do this Monday when I signed the final paperwork. He came from about 25 miles away to do so.

The pictures tomorrow will be of the interior and more close ups on the exterior.

@My Slow UA6 Yep I didn't realize how dirty my TL was until I spent the night with the G37, I guess after 7 1/2 years I sort of got used to it.

A final video before I go to bed for the night; salesman is backing out the car through the front door Saturday evening. Sorry for the bad quality, it was taken with my saleman's phone since my phone was low on battery power.

Congrats on the purchase. Did you buy it from Nalley Infiniti of Decatur? If so, how was the buying process? I remember looking there before buying my FX35 from Infiniti of Gwinnett.

Though, judging by how many pics of the TL there are, it sounds like you're going to miss it even with all the problems it gave you.

@Hapa sorry bout the vid, I changed it to unlisted, so you guys still should be able to look at it now.

@sanjbaby Yep, I got the the G from Nalley Infiniti in Decatur. I actually live 3 miles from Infiniti of Gwinnett which was the same place I leased my 06 G35c from back in 2006. I would have preferred to get it from there, but Nalley Infiniti gave me much more on my trade (Gwinnett only offered $10K) and gave me a good deal on the the G. Sales guy from Gwinnett left me a message yesterday; I'm going to feel bad breaking the news to him that I got a car from somewhere else. Buying process at Nalley was good; I took a half day off from work last Friday to check out a 09 G37 MT coupe they had on a lease turn in. We couldn't meet on the numbers so I looked at other options. Sales guy was very patient, We drove an 09 G37s 6MT, a 08 M35 and a couple of G37 sedans that day after he showed me upcoming deals on the '12 models. He spent a lot of time with me and when we still couldn't close the deal on the '12 He let me take a G37s home over night to sleep on it. When I brought it back the next day I decided I liked the showroom car color combination better than the one I took home but still wasn't quite comfortable with the deal they offered. They came down some more on the price and gave me more on my trade, so so I ended up accepting the deal. I usually avoid the showroom cars because so many people are in and out of them, but I looked all over that car for over and hour and didn't find one scratch or problem on the outside or inside. According to the sale guy, the car was just in there a couple of days.

@Aman I have to admit I was still a little attached to the TL; We've been through a lot together. 7 1/2 years is the longest I've owned any car other than my 98 Escort that I had for about 9 years before it died on me. I missed my Escort too when I donated it to charity and still remember looking out my window as the tow truck hauled it away.

I was planning on keeping the TL well over 100,000 miles but so many problems with it eventually turned me away. The last thing I got fixed on it was the APP sensor at an indy shop then after that I made the decision that I would be done putting any more money into that car; just so many problems for my liking. To this day I still think its a great looking car. I'm also going to miss the stick shift but not going to miss the problems or anticipation of problems. Plus my latest negative experience with my local Acura Repair shop reinforced my decision to get rid of it just so there isn't any change I will have to deal with them anymore.

Hopefully this G37 will be a car I can keep for 100K miles long after its paid off. Out of all the cars I've owned, only the 98 Ford Escort made it past 100K miles during my ownership.

Nice pickup. Despite its age, the G37 sedan still never fails to grab my attention whenever I see one. (With the mother inlaw in a need of a fuel efficient sedan, I'm thinking of selling my 12 Accord EX to her.....and tops on my replacement list is the G37X/XS.)

Enjoy her!

Wow awesome new car! All the best luck with it!

I'm curious what issues you had with your TL? $12,300 for a 6mt TL with less than 60k miles seems like a hell of a deal for the dealership on a trade in. They'll turn that around for a huge profit on resale.

I was looking at the pics from when I traded my '06 TL for my '10 G37S. Amazing how nice the 3G TL looks. It is aging quite nicely.

Thanks! Spent the first part of the day wondering if I should have waited for the 6MT instead, but later on i realized if I got the 6MT, I would then probably be wondering if I should have gotten the 7AT. Just me second guessing myself as usual; something I always do when spending money. All in all I think I made the right decision though in the long run. I had two 6MT's (the 05 TL, and a 06 G37c on a short term lease) and I think an auto is a good choice this time; slightly better MPG and the paddle shifters which I like a lot.

So many issues with the TL; it would take too long to list them again. Most of them can be found in this thread though https://acurazine.com/forums/car-talk-5/2012-g37-coupe-6mt-lease-good-deal-857371/ (post #20). I really hope the next owner of the TL has a lot better luck than I did.

As far as the dealer price, I figure they are probably going to list it between $16,000 and $18,000. Its already on their website, but has a price of "Please Call".

It has an accident reported on carfax which in hindsight was a bad idea to call the cops for, the damage was so minor to the front bumper I never even bothered to get it fixed as it wasn't worth the $500 deductible.

When I started looking at cars, I was only expecting about $10,000 for my TL which is exactly what Infiniti of Gwinnett offered, but when Carmax offered $13,000 for it despite the carfax report, I knew the Infiniti of Gwinnett offer was a low ball figure. Infiniti of Gwinnett's excuse was that it was a manual transmission which is not in demand which seems like a poor excuse to low ball me. I think in the end that's what caused them to lose the sale.

Here are the offers I got from some other dealers:
Hyundai offered $12,300 after seeing Carmax's offer of $13,000
Chevrolet offered $11,000
Nalley Infiniti originally offered $11,000 until bumping it up to $12,300 after I told them I was going to carmax to sell my TL to them.

The tax savings by trading it in to them is $738 so its like I actually got 13,038 for it. Probably could have gotten a little more without the accident on carfax but I'm just glad I didn't have come out of pocket with additional cash to get my payments in comfortable range.

Wow, you really talked them down on price! Your TL looks pretty stock, so it sounds like you did get a fair trade-in price too.

eh, you did alright I guess... It's not a 5.0.

just kidding, car looks good man. I love it when they pull the car out of a showroom. Even for a test drive, it just feels great lol.
I think for a car like this, automatics are better. Just my opinion.

Ok, as promised here are the last set of pics I took last night and today at work and home. Thanks again to all you guys for all the well wishes. Going to inquire about a clear bra tomorrow at some local shops to help keep the front end free of chips. Other than that, no other plans for mods at the moment.

Interesting...Price on my old TL

I checked the dealer's site where I traded my TL and the price is $14,991; I was real high on my estimate. Not much room for them to negotiate so I am guessing they will be pretty firm on that price. I'm not sure if they did any additional maintenance other than cleaning it obviously. But that price only gives them $2,691 to work with.
