04 Maxima auto vs 99 tl-p

I blasted my friend up the other day in his 04 Maxima auto. I have headers, K&N Filter and iridium plugs, also just had oil changed Mobil 1 always and slick 50 complete fuel system cleaner put in before fill up. I was at 1/2 tank and he was too. He is stock and he said his car was still faster than mine. I said I want to find out and challenged him. We were both at stop light and had about 1/4 to run straight ahead. Light turned green, we both had decent launches, no much spinning at all. I was in SS and he was in tiptronic mode. I had a slight edge up to 30mph then I went into second and he pulled even and then had a slight edge on me until I hit V-tec in second and then I pulled ahead about a car length. He was edging up when I went to third and then v-tec kicked in and now I was about two car lengths up on him and the rest is history. He couldn't catch up. Man the 02' Maxima are definitely faster than the 03-04 maxima's but have 10 less HP. I guess new Maxima's are much heavier. He was embarassed, then I told him that Nissan is no match for Acura and gave him the finger and told him to trade that piece of crap in for an Acura. We laughed and now he has true respect for Acura.

thats what i think too. he was talking smack like his car was a sports car. I was like you are crazy. I have driven his car before and it seems very heavy and the steering sucks. I does accelerate very well, but just not as well as my car. hahaha

With a couple of stock 6G 5AT Maximas having already posted low 14-sec ETs, sounds like your friend's Maxima blew a MAF sensor. As for his Maxima being a 'piece of crap', I havent heard of many auto tranny issues with Maximas.

Those Maximas Run strong as shit, your friend prolly had something wrong with his. And if you were driving hard, you car should have never been out of vtec in 2nd, it would have shifted right into the meat of the powerband. I smell something fishy here.

I like his car and don't think it is a piece of crap at all. I was just reiterating what I said to him. Just trash talk between two friends. His car has 13k miles on it and was recently services by Nissan. I don't think he blew a sensor. This was a fair race and I beat him. Don't knock the tl-p its got some balls especially w/headers.

Oh no, I dont knock the TL-P. I've posted on several occassion that I've rented it a few times and feel that its faster than its 225hp/216lb-ft indicate. I also posted (in the past) that I ran a brand new 02 Alti 3.5SE 4AT with a TL-P I rented, keeping a bumper on it through (roughly) 1/4 mile distance.

But speaking from experience as an 02 Maxima owner, I do know that a well broken in VQ35DE usually result in pretty quick 1/4 mile times. Although the TL-S is more on par with the VQ35DE Maxima/Altima (in terms of performance), I still wouldnt sleep on the TL-P.

no man, I was in ss so I shifted to 3rd, v-tec definitely kicked in in 2nd gear. I have headers, K&N filter and other same stuff, but my car was runniong cherry. As I said it was a fiar race and my car out-performed his. Nothing fishy at all. Damn after I get my UR crank pulley and icebox put it I will torch my ass. No quesion Maxima is nice car. I would drive one. The 02's are definitely faster than 03-04. I have driven both hard. My car feels a bit quicker in SS. If it was straight auto vs. auto he might have inched me out by a nose. Maybe I shifted at better intervals than him.

None believers in the TL-P. That's fine, but fact is fact and I whipped him. I hit v-tec in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear and then race was over. Believe it or not it happened and I bet I could do it again and again.

If that makes you feel better, continue to tell yourself that.

I've driven a TL-P before, but when I tried to shift from 1st to 2nd, it didnt? It does it by its self. So how did you get it to shift?

wtf, this does not make sense, i have a 99tlp and vtec kicks in at 3800rpm!, how the hell was he that low when he shifted from first? when u race from a stop, u will only hit vtec once!!!! thats in 1st gear, after that it stays on! either he doesnt know when vtec kicks in or something is wrong here.

Okay, I guess I was mistaking the push I was getting at 5000+rpm's with v-tec when I was shifting gears, my bad. BTW the slick 50 sticker gives you 25HP not 10HP haha. The mobil 1 sticker gives you 10HP. I honestly did not know that v-tec will only kick in once, it makes perfect sense. I just never thought about it. Oh well, I am a Mainer what do you expect!!! HAHAHA.

Wow to have a 99 TL-P take on a Maxima is pretty impressive.
but sorry, I dont buy it, Maybe he was half asleep while racing or whatever.

ANyways, 04 Maxima even looks faster than 2nd Gen TL, let alone a first year 2nd gen.

so if by telling us you beat a maxima makes you all happy, then go for it. have fun

Nice kill.

Your car sure responded well to those mods for taking one of those Max's. Have you taken your car to a track with those. That'll help determine whether your car is a freak or the Max is a pig.

Gotta love this thread. I had a 99 TL with:
Injen Cold air intake
OBX Headers
Full Mandrel Bent 2.25 inch cat back to a 2.5 inch Y pipe into Magnaflow Mufflers
UR Crank Pulley
Type S Throttle Body
MDX Intake Manifold
Denso Iridium IK20 Plugs
Apexi Vafc-Tuned
and some others i probably forgot.
But, with all those mods i was barely pulling on a stock 04 Max.
