**2004 TL Specs**
I know someone who works at the Acura dealer as a mechanic in training (studying mechanical engineering) and the dealer got specs for the 2004 TL on sale in October. I managed to glance at it quickly, engine is gonna a V6, for all the enthusiats, there is a 6 Speed on tap, there WILL be a Type-S version, no spec on the Type-S, however, lets just say that it has dvd entertainment system, with dvd/mp3 capability, and this was shocking to me...290 HP on the TL-P base model!!! It still is front wheel drive, and prices will be much higher than now, since ths TSX fully loaded can go for 35K, pricing may start at around 36-38K. Also threre will a TSX coupe to replace the CL coupe which will also be coupled with a high power engine close to the new TL (no exact specs given). This was all I could get from him and from the spec sheet

A Tsx coupe replacing the CL. Better perform and look the part. I'm excited about a new TL-S tho. That's really cool that a TL-p w/ base 290 hp. TL-S probly be around 315-20?
This will be my new car. I'm really interested as how the Tsx coupe will look and what kinda engine it'll get. We shall see I guess.

Heh, A tech trainee would be one of the last people to hear the initial specs.
Sales department would hear about it first through the GM.
There are rumors but that's all there are at this point.
Facts:
V6
The rest is speculation.
Likely:
290hp
FWD
Out there:
Side mirrors replaced by cameras?
windshield wipers replaced by airjet nozzles?
As soon as I know, I will let you know, assuming I can.

I have a few doubts, but who knows. A TSX coupe sounds kind of stupid though.
If Acura really wanted to compete in the coupe market, a TSX coupe won't be enough IMO. 290+hp, RWD/AWD, sexy styling are necessary to do really well.

As for there being a TSX coupe, as Gunmetal indicated, the RSX already fills that slot and there wont be any Coupe TL (aka CL).
Personally, I'm very eager to see the production version of the 2K4 TL; my Maxima's lease is up in early 2005 which is just in time for the purchase of a 2K5 TL-S.

an adult perspective
however ... if you consider that the ES300 is nothing more than an upscale Camry, than a TSX Coupe could be considered to be nothing more than an upscale Accord Coupe????? After all, isn't the TSX supposed to be the European Accord?

the 290 is easy to believe...headers puts the current type s at 290 what i wont believe is that they would offer this FWD only because honda said "anything above 270 would require AWD"

a mechanic in training (studying mechanical engineering), umm, theres a waste of 4 years and a degree.
290hp fwd base when there is also going to be a typeS, yeah right, talk about setting people up to be let down when the real car is released. acura made a press release that any car over ~270hp will get awd.
the tsx price with dealer accessories has nothing to do with the tl's price.
a tsx coupe with engine specs close to the supposed 290hp tl, uhhuh. and seeing so much info to know that a coupe based off the tsx, which hasn't even reached concept form yet, is replacing the cl, yet not knowing the name of said coupe, yea.
think he's been reading too many honda bananas

There is no more Premium and TypeS. Get the drift of the new Acura line-up with how the TSX is done - one model type, for at least the first year.
290hp V6 is as good as fact right now for the new TL.
Also the car will most likely cost around $34-35k, which is about a $2k increase over the current TypeS. You can be sure the sound system will be at LEAST as good as the TSX's 360watt 8-speaker system, so it will blow away the current 5-speaker TL system. And considering a ~30hp bump and all the latest and greatest features, including a complete redesign of the vehicle, that's more than fair.
Stop with all the stupid rumors about $40k and AWD and this and that.

The Type-S and base model may (I repeat may ) have the same engine. However, the Type-s is tuned differently with suspensions and tire/brakes packages... like the Track model of the Z350.

I don't believe it, at least some of the info.
A base TL with 290hp and still being front wheel drive? I have to tell I can't imagine how significant the torque steer would be, unless the torque is not as high and it's only the horsepower.
Then how can a fully loaded TSX cost 35k? Is it U.S. dollar? A fully loaded TSX has MSRP of $28.5k that is with the navigation system.
Would a two door TSX overlap with RSX?

Those who say: "290 hp on a FWD car is insane. " are out of their sound mind!!...
Let us see: CLS + Bolts-ons will get around 20% boost in HP so it is 260 +52 = 312 HP... It is FWD... and I do not notice any more Torque Steer than stock... Wider tires will cure T.Steer, if any.
How about CLS with SC and Bolts on... sure enough it is more than 360 HP and still FWD.. do you think it has insane torque steer?
Be realistic!

doesn't matter if it can be done, acura said they aren't doing it. can't remember if it was an interview from nyas or an article, but he(acura spokesman) basically said 270hp is reaching the limit of fwd for the company and they would be looking to awd for models with more power.
#36
The only known fact is Acura better come out with something to be able to compete with Infiniti and BMW. Wouldn't be too hard for Acura but an 8" DVD/Navi system sounds very possible....as far as the drivetrain all they have to do is IVTEC the 3.5 engine and drop it right in with RWD or FWD with 18" wheels and you have a winner. The price going up to 38K is bullsheet they couldn't compete with BMW even though it was 8k cheaper what makes them think they will at same price.

So for $30k-$32K you could by a 290 hp acura or for $90k you could also buy a 290 hp acura?! If the 290 hp rumor is true, then acura seriously needs to bump up the power for the NSX.

Bill Gates once claimed 640kb of RAM should be enough for anybody. Clearly he does not still stand by that claim. Technology advances, needs grow. Things change.

And the NSX will be redone for the 2005 model year just like the RL will. Changes take time. A whole line-up will not be redone in the same year, but you will see a new RL in MY05 and a new NSX is almost guaranteed. They are currently the two most dated body styles in Acura's lineup.
Patience and intelligence. If you guys can take on those virtues you'd be all right. Patience to wait for the truth and intelligence to ignore baseless and outdated acusations like "$40k" "AWD" and "won't be 290hp on FWD".
