$20,000 e90 M3 ???

I know, it doesn't exist at least if it's not wrecked.

What sporty sedan would you buy under 20k? G8? G35/37? Older M5? Used 335? Something else? Maintenence costs ARE imortant.

G35xS with a 6 speed seems to be the best option imho but mayeb there is something else. Just has a good combination of sport, luxury, looks, and speed.

If you're concerned about maintenance costs you can take the older M5 off the list, and good luck finding a 335i, G8 GT or G37 sedan for under $20k unless it has major miles on it, so looks like you're left with the G35 sedan. I'm obviously biased, but my Mazdaspeed6 has been great so far. Fun, decently economical MPGs and low cost maintenance-wise. You can find them for under $20k with 20k-30k miles on the odometer.

I don't think you can get a G8 GT for under $20k either.

I think I'd look at a 3rd Gen TL-S before a G35.

Look at an 07-08 G35 Sedan.

The 2nd Gen G35 and G37 Sedans are very close in pretty much everything. Only a few cosmetic changes (and 5AT vs. 7AT in auto's)

The G37 outputs slightly more HP and TQ, but following on the G boards, the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are almost identical to both due to the G37 Sedan being slightly heavier if I remember correctly.

Some Results for you 07/08 G35 Sedan Manual Trans:

Thanks for all the replies....

@Willdogs

Can you get the G35x with a manual or only rear drive? I live in the NE as well (DC) so AWD would be a plus. If not in theory I'd have to decide between 6-spd OR awd. Hmm.

You could get snow tires on a second set of wheels for perhaps less than moving up to AWD.

I don't think we got a whole lot of bad weather last year here. I feel like I used my E36 a lot last winter.

G35x is only available in Auto but you can get a G35xS with paddle shifters to make it a bit more sporty. Or add the paddle shifters after (To a Non-S) for ~$280 (simple install).

It's no where near a Manual Trans, but a good compromise I think. And the Auto shifts pretty quick.

I just noticed you're in the area too. You're right about having relitively mild winters. One of my neighbors has an RS4 and everytime he pulls in and out I'm like Seems like that would be the perfect blend of everything, but it's also at LEAST 10k too expensive if not more.

I've always been wiery of having a whole set of extra wheels. I don't really have the space, and the cost of the cars are generally the same, it would actually be an "extra" cost, I think.

This makes sense. I have a 2000 TL and was kind of looking forward to a manual shift, but I don't think the auto would really be a deal breaker, especially since the six speed's aren't easy to find at all.

Another question...how's the used car financing market these days? My credit is a little dicey at the moment. I don't have a lot of debt, but i haven't kept up with a few small bills that are showing on my report. Income and current debt won't be an issue, but the deliquency will I think. Am I likely to be able to do a 48 month term?

I did some random numbers that would work, but may not be something the finance co would do:

Price $18,000
Interest rate 10%
Downpayment $6,000
48 month term
$304.35 monthly payment

A 10% interest rate? That seems pretty high. I just financed a used purchase at 3.49 for 60 months. Granted, my credit score is well north of 800, but the spread shouldn't be almost 6.5 points.

As far as financing, apply with Capital One Auto Finance

They will pre-approve you and tell you what your APR will be. They will send you a blank check which you can use at the dealership.

If you don't use the check, just tear it up and throw it out. Simple.

I bought my car using Cap One and it was super easy and I loved it because it gave me purchasing power since as far as the dealer was concerned, i was paying outright. I signed over the check and they handed me the keys and all the paperwork for the car.

I would def recommend Cap One

Mine is far SOUTH of 800 lol

Really haven't taken care of it or managed as I should have but its better than it has been.

I wonder if I should apply now, or work some things out with the creditors first. Will my "payoffs" take affect immediately or no? These are probably basic questions but I really have no idea when it comes to financing.

Looked through your g35 thread. Lot's of good info in there. As much as I'd like a 6sp, I think a G35xS will be in my near future. Black on black with nav. Sounds perfect.

No one is going to take you seriously as a CEO if you pull up in a TL-S or G35. Better get an eight-year-old A8 or 7-series. There is also the 10 year old Porsche 911/Cayenne.

^wtf are you talking about?

I think a newer smaller luxury car will look just as good, if not better, than an older large luxury car.

True. Alot of people actually prefer the 5AT (as do I)

It's not very good for the MPG's but it shift alot better and holds gears longer. The 7AT seems to shift way too often when I had a loaner 2012 G37

G35 is the best bet...but those look so dated now...and too many people drive them. Dime in a dozen.

performance is good for what you get though, 05's and up are 300HP which is not bad at all.

i guess cons are, its heavy...not that quick compared to 335i, g8, evo etc..dated looks, and interior falling apart from what i read in the nissan forums.

Actually your not too far off the mark. Just bring it over to the green side. My boss (President) drives a Tesla Roadster.

Your facts are all screwed up

05's were 280 HP

starting in 2007 (Second Gen with HR motor) is at 306 HP.

Nothing in my interior is falling apart so again not sure what you are talking about. The first gen did have some interior issues that I heard of.

I think you have your years a bit screwed up. Do a bit more research.
