The $150k question
The $150k question
I am not considering this seriously, however like all car guys I always am planning what my next few cars might be. As I grow a bit older I am more comfortable spending a bit more on a car then most consumers because, simply put, I'm a car guy. So here's the deal you have a $150k to spend not a penny more and you can't include your current car as a trade in, you can buy used or new, one car or a dozen hyundai's, what would you get an why?
The only requirement is to be realistic, your not going to get a new Aston Martin DBS for $150k any more then you would an Enzo or Carrera GT.
I would probably go for two cars
I enjoy having a roadster, more so then I was expecting, and as much as I love my S2000 I do wish it had a bit more torque down low and/or revved just a little higher. I am currently torn between the 09 Boxster S(there have been an number of very appealing improvements to the 09, more power, greener, LSD, etc..) and a Super Charged Elise, I would have to drive both and pic the one that did it for me. I think I would lean towards the Boxster just for the "luxury" aspect of the car over the Elise. Even though I would have a second car I am sure I would drive this 85% of the time.
For the other car I would go for something that would hold 4 people, have a bit more storage and be more comfortable, right now I am leaning towards a 535i.
Since I would have quite a bit of money left over, I would chip the 535i and otherwise leave it stock. The roadster would get header(s), high flow cats, exhaust, chip and if it was the Porsche a plenum and probably a really high end set of wheels - if I still felt myself wanting more I would then do suspension.
How would you spend your $150k?

How would you spend your $150k?
New Lexus LS600hL: ~$115k
+ used Ferrari 308 GTS : ~$35k
=========================
$150k
This doesn't include annual maintenance costs on the 308, does it?
Lexus for the daily driver. Top-shelf comfort and luxury + AWD handling for the winter time.
Ferrari for weekends and short trips in nice weather, with the obligatory cassette tape of the Magnum P.I. theme song.
Edit: Plus "Holiday Road" from the movie Vacation. Christie Brinkley...

Interesting question ...
2007 Porsche 911 GT3
2008 Audi TT convertible
I wouldn't buy any used exotics. To me they are like strippers - great to look at but I don't want to spend any significant time with one.
I would buy a 911 GT3 to track it. I probably wouldn't get a GT3 that was track ready because I don't want to have to buy a truck and trailer to haul it. So it would be a street legal version.
I have an S4. I love it. But there's no way I'm going to track it.
So, a 2007 GT3 is about $115k ... I'd take the other $35k and buy a used 2008 Audi TT convertible. I love Audis and the TT is a good looking 'vert. I don't care that people here call them "chick cars".

1 yr. old S550 + Boxster S. (really prefer the Cayman, but no drop top available)
Leftover $$ (if any) -> Wheels for the boxster + other mods.

this question is a tough one. B/c you want one car that stands out, and another daily driver. however, you cannot really get an EXOTIC for, say, 100k. unless i cant think of one off the top of my head?
All Lambos, Ferraris, Bentley, Rolls, and AM are out of the picture. (Cont. GT doesnt really count as an exotic, nor does Porsche)

Anyone that buys a $100k car and then makes car payments has found a way to write them off on their taxes ...
Or is a colossal idiot spending well beyond their means.
someone i know will be picking up a 360 spyder soon..
so that would be my choice if you have to own one car. I prefer the Gallardo in vert form and it cannot be had under 130-135k. If you want two cars my vote goes to a 997 GT3 as a track and weekend car and a pre-owned 535 or 550 xi.
