Reverse mounted 50mm 1.8 macro shots
Nice stuff! It looks like you've done well with that technique. I'm actually surprised that you were able to get so much depth of field in some of those shots. I've tried it before and got extremely limited DOF.
thanks guys, it can be challenging to get decent images, especially the coins and watchs. lighting is a pain, the frost ones can be hit and miss for focus point being on what you want. and the only way to focus is by moving the subject or camera rig towards or away fro the subject.
moeronn in all my noob excitment I'd paid $90 for both rings (face palm here). you need the BR-2A ring to reverse mount the lens, and the BR-3 allows you to put a filter on the exposed back end of the lens.
they have both at amazon.

in hind site I probaly would put the $90 towards an older manual 105mm. oh well, live and learn.

thanks again everyone.
jupitersolo, it has worked out well. and is a good form of practice with all the challenges it provides, although I'm still probably going to look into a manual 105mm 2.8 and probably an extension tube. I'd really like to get some good bug shots next year.
SaaBaaDoo I think you'll like it. as long as you don't mind a challenge, it's kinda like a puzzle getting good lighting unless your in the open daylight. which is what lcrzyaznl is talking about I think, that and the narrow plane of focus and DoF, maybe?
waTSX I'm always looking for interesting textures around the house, I think next time I do this set up I'll try some paper money. that should be alittle more challenging DoF and sharpness wise.

got my reversing ring in today...finally! Tried it out right away and love being able to take photos without holding the 50mm up to the camera. I get extremely limited DOF though. I think I may try to find some nice manual aperture 50mm lens to use off of ebay instead of the nifty fifty.
