I have energiser rechargables for the flash. They've been great - getting at least 200+ flashes per charge. They should also work well for a P&S. Just get at least 2 or 3 sets worth.

I use green label Sanyos and Sanyo Enerloops. For charging I use a Maha MH-C9000 and it's fantastic. Check out www.thomasdistributing.com the next time you're ordering batteries...

It really depends how fast your camera goes through a charge, but 1 or 2 sets should last you a day and you can recharge at night (or in the car). Get the 15 minute charger if you think you'll run through batteries too fast.

You must use lithium batteries for digital cameras, by the way.

'normal' alkaline batteries have a different power curve which is totally inappropriate for digital cameras. After your digital camera 'uses up' an alkaline battery, you'll find it still works plenty well with remote controls, etc, etc.

NiMH are fine too, but I agree that alkalines are pretty lame due to their internal resistance. The Sanyo Enerloops are great if you need a battery that will hold it's charge for long periods of inactivity. The Sanyo green label batteries that you can get from Thomas Distributing are extremely durable and are what I use for my flashes and P&S camera. The green lable batteries are what manufacturers use to build bigger battery packs, so they are more rugged and their capacity can be expanded beyond their 2500mah rating with a good charger, like the Maha MH-C9000. Most of my green lables are over 3000mah after a few cycles on the C9000...

i just got four energizer 2500mah for my Canon 580ex II flash. I took ~300 photos with it at an event and it still cycles immediately.
