I just don't see the rumored D600 being priced at $1500, realistically...$1999, IMO

Can't see it being as that much, it seems that it would be a full frame sensor in a D7000.

but this is what I mean... if the D600 is THAT cheap... won't it kill the D7000 sales (and it's replacement whenever that comes out)?

No, because it will be at least $500 or more. Plus the D7000 is selling about $100 to $150 less than the $1199 MSRP. And a replacement is at least a year away.

Those new Nikon D600 and WU-1b images and detailed specs were just published in a Malaysian forum:

Sensor: 24,3MP CMOS Total: 24.7 million

Image size

FX 36mm x 24mm :
6,016 x 4,016 (L) 4,512 x 3,008 (M) 3,008 x 2,008 (S)

DX 24mm x 16mm
3,936 x 2,624 (L) 2,944 x 1,968 (M) 1,968 x 1,312 (S)

FX-format photographs taken in movie live view :
6,016 x 3,376 (L) 4,512 x 2,528 (M) 3,008 x 1,688 (S)

DX-format photographs in movie live view :
3,936 x 2,224 (L) 2,944 x 1,664 (M) 1,968 x 1,112 (S)

ISO 100 ~ 6,400. ( 50 - 25600)

Finder: 100% coverage.

AF: 39 points.

Shutter: 1/4,000 ~ 30 sec, bulb. Carbon fiber and Kevlar, tested to 150,000 cycles.

2,016-Segment RGB Meter

Flash Sync: 1/200. Built-in Flash

Frame Rate: 5,5 FPS.

Rear LCD: Exquisite 3.2," 921,000 pixels.

Video

The Nikon D600 can capture Full HD (1080p; 1,920 x 1,080 pixel) video at either 24, 25 or 30 frames per. For 720p (1,280 x 720 pixel) video, a rate of 60 frames per second is possible. Video can either be shot using data from pixels across the entire width of the image sensor in FX mode, or with a 1.5x (DX-format) focal length crop, taking data from the center of the imager, without affecting the video resolution.

Videos are recorded using H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC format compression, maximum clip length is 29 minutes, 59. Even more unusually, it's possible to have the live feed piped to the D600's HDMI port as an uncompressed full HD signal, allowing it to be recorded using an external device and/or routed to an external monitor. If desired, this signal can be mirrored on the camera's own LCD display at the same time; the off-camera feed doesn't have any overlays added, so as not to impact external recording devices.

And the time-lapse photography function can be used to automatically photograph relatively slow moving action

HDMI HD output

White Balance
"The D600's intelligent auto white balance algorithm renders white as truly white even when shot under a wide range of light sources, including mercury vapor light. The D600 analyzes color and brightness information of the scene before shooting utilizing Scene Recognition System, and detects the light source highly accurately by referencing its massive collection of in-camera shooting data. The D600 also carries another auto white balance mode that maintains warm lighting ambience when you shoot under incandescent light"

Auto (2 types), 2500 K-10000 K

Power
EN-EL15, standard; same as D7000 and D800.

Connect with smart devices through the Wireless Mobile Adapter (Android and iOS devices )

Nikon announced an optional Wi-Fi transmitter for the camera. The WU-XX clips into the USB socket of the D600 and allows you to broadcast its images to smartphones and tablets running a Nikon app. The unit allows the camera's live view output to be streamed to the smart device and allows images to be shot remotely. The WU-XX immediately transfers photos and also allows you to upload them to social networks to share with friends and family

Android smartphones and iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod)

Ridiculous price for what will essentially be a mini-D800. Also, it makes sense that it would have better noise performance than D800. But it has the older 39-pt AF from the D7000. It shouldn't cut too much into D800 sales... or will it, I guess we will have to see.

Hmmmm interesting. Can't decide to wait for a real replacement for the D300 or step up to a full frame body and just shoot in dx mode for all the dx lens I have. I assume the resolution at this point would probably still be better than my D300 since this has a 24MP sensor for full frame.

Also, this has been a rumor about the D610 as well.

http://petapixel.com/2013/08/30/rumo...as-d5300-d610/

The most recent camera announcement news and rumors have come mainly out of the Sony camp, but it looks like Nikon has a couple of new cameras up its sleeve as well, including a new D610 that will finally put to rest the D600′s sensor speck issue by replacing the camera all together.

According to Nikon Rumors, there are two bodies on the way — the D610 and the D5300. Neither will be major upgrades, but the prospect of a D610 is still getting some attention as it is said to fix the D600′s sensor speck issue, which we’ve covered at length.

Nikon finally acknowledged the problem by releasing an official service advisory back in February, but no solution was given other than basically telling users to try self-cleaning with a standard blower, and have an official repair center take a look if that still doesn’t work.

From the little information we have so far about the D610, it seems that Nikon will release it for the sole purpose of fixing this problem. It’s similar to what the company did with the SB-910 flash when the SB-900 was overheating — no major improvements, just fixing a problem.

The other camera body Nikon is rumored to be announcing alongside the D610 is the D5300, which will also be a minor upgrade. The D5300 will likely add a few small features that the D5200 doesn’t have. No word yet on what those features might be, but Nikon Rumors believes they might include built-in WiFi and GPS.

I don't think it will, they tried that with the Nikon 1, V and J. If this is going to be based on FM body, it's going to have F mount, Can't see Nikon releasing yet another body and lens system.

Update - some additional specifications that will clarify some of the questions in this post:

Standard F-mount
Pentaprism viewfinder (meaning the camera will not be mirrorless)
The camera will meter even with non-AI lenses down to full aperture
The camera will ship with a new special edition Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G lens to match the look/design of the body
The camera will have physical controls and excellent build quality (which explains the 765g weight)
Expeed 3 processor
Same sensor as in the Nikon D4
Nikon calls it a "hybrid" camera - not sure what exactly they mean with that
The announcement most likely will take place in the next 1-3 weeks

If they aren't going mirrorless and getting the size and weight down then I don't get the point other then making a retro body which seems dumb to me...

Aside from a cool design I still don't get the point of this...unless they are slotting it to replace the D300s or something...but its a FX chip...soooo
