So far the SX1 IS is not going to be available in North America.

It must be streaming the data out by interlacing row buffers.
In theory, even in video mode, when you 'take a picture', couldn't the next
'video frame' be saved and processed as a picture, without interrupting
the video process? Just double save the next frame? Or does that take
too much processing power/memory?
I remember a while ago, when shooting video on a friend's camcorder, I hit the 'snap a picture' button, and I was surprised when the camera totally froze up for a second, while saving the picture. It's like it has to totally flush the sensor and then shoot a picture from scratch, then restart the video process. Weird.

Apparently it does interrupt the process, although I don't see why it needs to.

Looking through the rest of that PC World article makes me skeptical about anything that was said in it.. lol
oh and,
if it's true..
When it was first introduced, the 5D broke new ground as the first digital SLR with an image sensor that matches the size of a 35mm film frame. A "full-frame" camera is capable of delivering the full range of an SLR lens, such that a 24-to-105mm lens actually delivers a 24mm wide-angle view.
a new, slightly smaller battery that can track battery power levels.

i would get the 5DmkII over the D90 video in that 5DmkII has 1080p and AF while recording.

but that is not the main driving factor into why i would want a 5DmkII

yeah the choice is not whether to get the MKII or the D90.. I mean, if I wanted it my way, I would have to get both.

I'm just saying the MKII has complicated things in a way I had not anticipated it would..

Where as the D90 may only shoot 720p, but does so at 24fps.

yes it would. but if its recording video without the shutter, it can take still without the shutter as well...which means the image would be more like a screen grab.

It's been a long day. I can see how it records video without using the shutter, but I would still expect it to use the shutter to take the still - to get the correct exposure.
In addition to that, I wonder how much the IQ will suffer if you take a still 10 minutes into recording video when the sensor is hot.

images should be fine...pro video cameras get downright toasty. So long as the camera isnt under blankets it'll be OK. But if I reading you right....it'll be interesting to see if long term video recording and sensor heat screw with the backfocus at all.

Mirror is down only so you can look through the optical viewfinder and/or
use the normal SLR autofocus sensor.
Since the Mark II is focusing using the sensor (contrast detection)
there's no need. And presumably there is live viewage going on.

if I was using this at the clubs I would only take short snips of video... probably several minutes, tops. I would use them as supplements to the photos.

Looking up girls skirts, you can only film a little at a time.

Big Block go VROOOM!
Out of curiosity, do you usually carry two lenses with you at the clubs or just one? There actually is a reason I'm asking.

I always take the 24-70 and the 50. Lately I have only been using the 24-70 though. I was on a 50 kick for a while, but after I started missing and/or not being able to get some shots I really wanted just because of its limitations, I decided to stick primarily to the 24. Once in a while I'll use the 50 when I wanna do some 1.6 stuff.
The dust spots are another big issue (I need another sensor cleaning atm), the last time I sent it out it was $150. Calumet has recently announced a sensor cleaning service that is $60, I'm gonna try that this time.

The Canon HF100 full 1920 x 1080p high def camcorder submitted for your consideration....

I'd estimate it weighs barely more than half of what the brick does if even that much. Moral of the story, don't go for a new SLR body just to shoot video. It's not a big deal at all to carry a dedicated video camera these days.

how does it do at iso 25600? hehe
I'm not thinking about it just for video. If I was only interested in video, I would be thinking about the Red Scarlet.

I think for what srika will be doing with it, a DSLR with video is what he needs.
