And so I don't completely derail the thread, here's another HDR marble shot

Take this picture for instance.

After processing it left that flat spot(s) in the clouds. Is that a hot spot where everything just got washed out after processing the three together. IIRC, it was a pretty bright area on the individuals. Is there a way to avoid that either from the picture or processing standpoint?
yeah, this happens. its just something you have to watch out for. I recommend fixing this kind of thing in PP, after generating the HDR. What I mean is, if you've arrived at the look you want and are happy with it, except you have spots like this, fix it in PP.

What kind of PP techniques could you use with PS to correct this?
There's still more things I don't know how to do with PS than I do. Heh.

CS3 if it makes a difference.

cloning / smoothing tools. you can also use the heal tools for things like this. but it really depends on the circumstance. I use CS3 too. thinking some more, since the areas in your photo are white, you could even just paint white in there. and then smooth it out.

there's likely videos out there about doing this, see if you can find any. if not, I would be happy to do one.

All my photos are geotagged if you want to exact location on Flickr , but it's in the state of Kerala outside the city of Munnar in south west India.

We flew from Mumbai to Kochi and then a car drove us about 2.5 hours to Munnar where we are staying. The whole area of Munnar is amazing. The scenery is breathtaking. That shot was on a hike through some tea plantations. I think Kerala is a MUST see if you are visiting India, it is so peaceful and beautiful.

I download the trial of HDR Efex. Pretty cool program. There a TON of tweaks you can do. I haven't really used photomatix, so I can't really compare them, but I am considering purchasing this.

Anybody used both that can comment on which they prefer?
