Oh, and guess who had the cash to buy it? For a hint, click on the top view for a larger image and look at the text on the side of the lens...

If you were to use an adapter on your 1.5 crop Nikon, this thing would have the field of view of a 3442mm lens. A Canon 1.6 crop would be 3672mm.

I just want to find out how he plans on mounting this thing. I bet it will be mounted to a jeep, sort of like a machine gun.

They're not giving the exact price other than it had 7 zeros on the tag, and I don't think they were counting pennies. It took a team of 12 engineers over a year to design it. I'm sure that wasn't cheap.

Looks like a decent "walking around" lens.

That thing is almost as long as I am tall, but a few pounds heavier.

Do you have lens envy? Now my 100mm macro just seems so....so...unworthy.

This guy is either shooting celestial bodies, or he's a major peeping tom.

If I'm doing the math right, which I'm pretty sure I am, the actual physical aperture inside this lens is over 16" in diameter when wide open.

Yep, it would need to be at least 16". Just building an aperture that big would be an engineering feat in itself.
