one pesky annoyance: I have a 4gb SD card (A-data brand, very fast), but my generic crappy flash card reader can't read it. I checked newegg and it seems only a few readers support 2gb+
My first time with a camera with more than a 3x zoom
Unzoomed

zOMG zoomed!

Well, if all you're doing is shooting hot tubs in broad daylight, I guess the S3 is the better choice.
Not exactly a scientific test.
For fun, compare the samples in these two reviews:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canons3is/page6.asp
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos5d/page21.asp
Take note of how ISO 3200 on the 5D has about the same amount of noise as ISO200 on the S3, and still has more detail. Low light is really where the 5D shines.
Samples alone won't begin to describe the difference between these two cameras. As great as the S3 is (I highly recommend it), it's still not as versatile as an SLR.
