Of the Canon 40D. I finally saved up the cash and no one has them in stock. Guess I have to wait now till they are in stock. Oh the pain of waiting

Keep looking. I found one locally here after hunting around a bit, and I'd bet some store in your area has one. Are you looking for the kit or body only? The kits seem easier to find. Some online vendors have them, but B&H and Adorama are out for now.

It says it comes with a 1GB CF care while supplies last as well. Good shipping rate also. I've had good luck with Newegg as far as computer stuff goes anyway.

At this point I give up on the tax. I just want a 40D in my hands. It’s got the best of me now. I can no longer fight it.

I'd say most of what could go wrong with the camera would go wrong in the first year, so no, no extended warranty for me. My 20D has given me no problems in three years.

All in good fun. I haven't seen much in the way of your impressions of the 40D. What's the verdict after several weeks or so?

I've been reading a lot of good things about it.

can i ask why you want the kit.

the lense that came with my canon 20D "kit" is a piece of shit.... buy the body only and spend an extra $400 bucks on a nicer lense... youre gonna want one soon anyway, i promise.

try checking Bhphotovideo for used lenses too if youre worried about cash

Well I am still learning so I thought I would get the camera figured out first. Then get a better lense. I mean I don't even know what lense I would get. At this point I would have a better chance figuring out Britney Spears before knowing what lens to buy

well thats what we're here for.... and trust me, i wish i never paid for that damn kit lense so spend your $ intelligently. would you buy a low grade intake for your car because youve never driven with one on it?

don't worry, even if you just look yourself you can find some nice ones... basically anything is better than the kit lense. maybe look for something with image stablization?

try this one to start

Canon lense

I checked circuitcity.com and it shows out of stock. But I think it's because we are in different states.

no no no... i rock the old 20d. didnt think the 30d was worth the upgrade but i've been considering going up to the 40d or saving up (for a LONG time) for a Mark III

by the way did you try www.calumetphoto.com?

But, of course, m'dear.

Yeahhh, my verdict after several weeks is life gets in the way of hobbies. :P I haven't had a chance to do much shooting, unfortunately. I'm living on a little farm right now, though, so I'm hoping to get around & use it soon at least on the property. I've been staying pretty busy, though.

I got to use it at a couple of weddings, though didn't really get to put it through the workout I'd like to have either time, for different reasons. Both were more exercises in figuring out external flash use than anything else. I'm pleased with the quality of the photos, though. I feel very free to bump the ISO up without even worrying about whether or not the photo will be useable. That alone has been worth the price of admission. I wasn't sure if I'd ever have cause to lower the frame rate in continuous shooting mode (as you probably know it gives the option b/tn ~6 or 3 fps). Turns out I have been glad for the option more than once, so that's nice, too.

Still feels like a big-people camera in my little-people hands.

The lens that comes with the 40D is a 28-135 IS, not the 18-55. It's a better lens and perfect to get started. It's a $400 lens that when sold with the kit is only $200 more.

The 28-135 gets pretty good write-ups and it has IS (I have not used it). The price with the kit is around $200, which is ~$150-200 cheaper than the lens by itself. The only thing you might find lacking is the lack of a wide end, which works out to be around 45mm in 35mm equivalence.

Pretty long for a wide end. I'd actually think the 18-55 would be a better starter lens for this body, because it's a better walk-around range with a decent wide angle, but I haven't seen it available in a kit with the 40D.

Gotcha. Life has a knack for doing that. I think I'll be picking one of these up this weekend. It's a good upgrade from the 20D, and has features I'd really like, such as RGB histogram, faster burst rate, better AF, etc.

Thanks for the input, 'lust.

The lens Dan Martin used is the same lens you got with your camera. The 18-55.

yeah but its the NEWER 18-55mm with the IS on it that comes as the kit lens for the 40d right? ( i saw some websites were offering the kit with 2 lens options either the 18-55 or the 18-135) mine was the kit lens for the 20d like 3-4 yrs ago and never was very good in my opinion.

No, it's just a 18-55mm like all of the others.
