Question....

I know everybody says 'Don't do it....don't do it....'

But is there even ONE reputable and trustworthy seller on ebay (selling DSLR's that is) that people know of or have experience with???

If not, trust me....I'll just say F it

Meh. Not worth the risk.

Although I did just buy my Cactus V2s Trigger on Ebay.

If it's camera equipment, it's either B&H/Adorama/POTN/FM or KEH

One more thing.

Should I get the 70-300mm or the 18-200mm

I'm leaning towards the 18-200

I'm going to be doing a little bit of everything at least to start off. I have a feeling the 18-200 will give me a little more versatility in the wider range. I wouldn't mind having the 200-300, but

Thoughts?

Personally, I'd get the 18-200. They seem like a much better walk around lens than the 70-300mm.

Nikon 18-200 VR?

I'm not sure if you're asking for general comments on those focal lengths or advice on specific lenses.

Also, there are some good ebay sellers out there. They are real camera stores that happen to have ebay auctions as their online store front.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I buy used camera stuff from Ebay and Craigslist all the time. I wouldn't buy new from Ebay though. The peace of mind and warranty is factored into the higher price.

Look up nine44 or nine944...can't remember but he's an awesome Nikon seller...bought my 70-210 from him...and all his cameras and lenses are in mint condition...and get the 18-200...i wouldn't worry about the extra 100mm you get on the 300...

Oh, well that's what I was somewhat implying. I never buy new from ebay. If it's new, it'd have to be from one of the sites I listed.

i've heard a few stores on ebay that have so-so ratings on resellerratings are better to purchase from on ebay. I think they say this is because their ebay department is separate, and ebay frowns upon stores that have the "call to confirm" or bait and switch operations, so any really obvious scammers would probably have their account deleted.

buying new, I would still rather buy from a reputable seller, but I'd still much rather buy on ebay from someone w/ good feedback, than some noname online retailer.

Plus I wouldn't really have a problem buying used equipment from a private seller. I bought my camera used on ebay from a private seller. Although my camera came in much worse shape that I thought it would be, so I was kinda pissed off. But at least it's worked the past 2 years, I was just desperate to pick up a camera before a 2 week trip, so I bought from whoever had a decent price. It was kinda stupid in the long run, but been working out alright i suppose.

Adorama, B&H, or local (if you can pricematch)

I've done eBay before and lucky for me I've never had an issue. Just make sure what you buy is from someone reputable. Preferrably if they're a photog and can very accurately describe an item.

I sell some camera gear on eBay when there's no interest in the forums.
