alright this is gonna be my first DSLR. its a starter camera that will probably never get replaced unless this one gets damaged. i will rock this camera til the wheels fall off basically. i've tried reading alot of camera threads on Az and off ( too much info !!!) and at first, i couldn't justify spending the extra 300-500 + $$ on the D90 compared to other cameras as i just want a very nice camera that i can take really good pictures with and that'll last a long time. i've searched prices and packages and everything.

these are my two options.

D5000 with 18-55mm, 55-200mm lenses and a shoulder bag from Bestbuy for $800 + tax

i went to bestbuy and held both cameras. the D90 felt nice and heavy and the d5000 just felt nice. they both had different lenses that contributed to the weight.

am i missing out on buying the D5000 instead of the D90??

The D90 is a better camera, if you can get his for just a few dollars more do it. I use my wife's when I want a smaller camera to use. It is very capable camera and the 18-105 is a much better lens than the two offered with the D5000.

You can get the set up brand new from amazon.com brand $1024.00 new right now. I would haggle a little.

I bought a D90 with the 18-105 for about $900 after BCB.

I was also looking at that D90 from the BM but he tells me there is no receipt for it. If that is not an issue with you, haggle him down to $900 or something.

I recently purchased a D5000 from amazon. From everything that I've been reading, the D90's 18 - 105mm is MUCH better than both the kit lens with the D5000, along with the 55 - 200mm lens you had listed.

I'd say buy the D90 if you can get the price a little bit lower.

Unfortunately 20% BCB is over, I have a funny feeling that pricing will go down after the New Year. Check out slickdeals.net for deals on the camera. $900 for just body is a rip, I've seen it go as low as $700.

 

I've not seen it new for $700, $800 as been the cheapest. amazon.com has for $789 currently.

where did you see that? i only use the same reputable companies when buying camera stuff and NEVER buy grey market...$700 brand new, non-grey market from a reputable seller is pretty hard to believe...

 

I myself don't buy Grey Market as I want/need the warranty, main reason I didn't get the D90 listed in the BM. Cameta had it available last week for $699.15

 

Cameta has it currently for 819 - 10% BCB is about $$739.
