I find myself questioning what I want out of photography these days. What am I shooting, how am I shooting, what do I want out of it.
While I like the fuji system, I'm starting to think I went into it all wrong. I thought going mirrorless and all zooms would give me complete coverage and convenience. The reality is that I'm not feeling that at all. Part of me is curious if I should get the 23f2 and break the camera down into its more basic form (I have the power grip on it). Part of me questions if I should get rid of it all and go with the X100F which many people say is a totally different and joyful experience to use. And then I flip flop...because while there are things I completely love about the Fuji (color science) there are things that still bother me (it does not resolve any where near as well as my old D800). This lead me to even possibly looking some such as the Leica Q which seems like a great shooting experience, ,very minimal and simple, ,but starts to get on the larger side of things with the body. There is the potential of the Nikon Mirrorless system but thats a crap shoot and first get system. So who knows.
In the meantime, during my trip to Monterey this past spring I had so much more fun shooting on my Mamiya that I am currently back to shooting on film. I'm borrowing, on a semi-permeant basis, a friend's Nikon F2 body and so far I've only been using the 35f2.
Maybe I just need multiple systems, but I hate the ideas of having cameras that only come out once in a blue moon. Or are cumbersome so they dont get used often...but they have the resolution and look I want, so I dont use the other options I might have purchased. I want the magically swiss army tool of cameras I want what my D800 gave me in a smaller mirrorless body...and I dont want to go Sony.
Either way, in the interim...I'll keep shooting celluloid again (and my iPhone). I like slowing down having to really think about my exposure and composition, taking my time, and winding the film to the next frame manually.
You want your D800 but smaller/mirrorless, so, why don't you want to go Sony?
I don’t like Sony’s ecosystem. I don’t like their menus, optics, or ergonomics. There is nothing, to me, that is pleasurable to use about their A7 series cameras.
David, as you know... I had toyed around with the idea of selling my X-T20 + lenses (23mm F2 and 18-55mm) and just stay all Sony. But for me, the X-T20 and 23mm F2 is my go-to combo for street photography. The truth is, I've done street photography with my a9 and 55mm F1.8 before, and it was great. The AF was spot on every shot, even in low lighting situations. But there's something about that retro... film camera looking X-T20 with the 23mm F2 that people just don't take me as serious. I think half the time (or maybe even most of the time) people just think it's a film camera The X-T2 has better AF than the X-T20, I just think maybe you should try borrowing or renting a 23mm F2 and see if you like that setup rather than jumping on an X100F. I mean, if you must have that rangefinder style viewfinder, then go for it. But, I think you'll miss having the option to change lenses when you need it. The 23mm F2 is on my X-T20 about 90% of the time.
yeah, many times I thought about selling it, but while for the longest time I never saw used listings in craigslist, I'm starting to see them now and kinda on the cheap side (the body that is). I rather just keep it
just look at it (plus, my wife likes it, even though she doesn't take pictures lol), I know it's total hipster camera but whatever
Dave, don’t know what to tell you. Very happy with my feet in both systems. Though with Nikon, it’s strictly long lenses for wildlife. I had a X100S, it was always with me, in my truck. But never really use it. I sold it to get into a XT-2.

yeah I don’t know what to tell me either. I won’t go back to dslr. Done with that.
Debating about selling my 16-55 2.8 and picking up the 23 f2.
Basically strip the XT2 to a body/prime lens for more everyday shooting and then have my wide/ling zooms and grip for more run and gun stuff.
I went through all my meta data, even though I already knew, its the lens I use the least. Great lens but I really don’t shoot in the mid range...thought I might for kids/family stuff. But I tend to be more around a 24mm for that stuff. I just prefer wider lenses.
