Might be the excuse I was looking for to get a new digital camera.

hmm.. i agree with both opinions above me, but IMO, the A640 w/ the 10.0MP and along with the other options it gives does make it a better camera. Just that only the IS is not present in the A640... I hope they make one like the A640+Image Stabilizer=
... But even tho, I'm still debating which one to get because the IS is very useful @ night time. And especially for me, because I looove the nighttime.

Say you want to shoot your car at sunset but you don't have a tripod. With the A640 you might need to use ISO 800 to prevent motion blur. That exact same scene could be shot at ISO 100 with the A710's image stabilizer turned on. ISO 100 is far less noisy than ISO 800 and will have a lot more detail. The resulting image will be far superior from the A710 even though it has 2.9M less pixels.
As my signature says, demand better pixels, not more pixels.
