Why? Canon has acknowledged the problem and will rectify it. I don't think this problem indicates a mass exodus to Nikon products is about to take place. All manufacturers have problems from time to time.

As if Nikon never has a service advisory. And its not as if this is the first time Canon has either. Its part of the business.

People with any logic are not going to change brands just because of this. You invest in a system not a body, people have thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars in lenses and other accessories.

Canon knows what the problem is finally and can fix them. The AF problem it not ALL that have been made, no one knows how many. I have one, there does not seems to be a problem with it. I've been AI Servo'ing to check out my Mk3, Out of 300 pictures, I think I had five that wasn't in focus and that was the dumb ass operator.

Now I have to go find a tree.

And it's not going to be the last, things are getting smaller and smaller, and more complicated. There's going to be problems.

The set still photographer on the feature I'm currently working on actually rented a MarkIII last night. I mentioned the service bulletin to her and she said funny I mention it because she was having tons of focus problems with the camera.

True. I didn't mean to say people with bunch of canon equipments all of sudden sell out and move on to nikon. I was talking about potential canon buyers.. and some of the existing canon fans will eventually move away.... This is about their reputation... This kind of defect should've been taken care of way sooner (you know people have been complaining from the beginning), especially on their flagship model??? And they are refusing to returns/refunds. Many people buy cameras as job/professions. This kind of faults has a big impact on those people, and I firmly believe Canon should honor return/refunds. Sure, it's not like you get out of focus pictures every other shots. But remember, faulty one is just faulty one.

Talking about dissatisfaction here. People will eventually turn away from Canon if they keep things the way it is now.

In the other hand, I'm happy with my 40D and 17-55

What happen here is a fluke, it didn't happen with every camera and it's not the first time Canon or Nikon has put out a problem body. Nikon lost major sales because year after year, they put out a poor flagship body, they did it with their first 2 maybe three bodies. This from shooting the shit with an old timer at one of the local stores today.

As complicated as these camera are nowadays, I don't think an quick fix works. Canon released a firmware but that didn't work, next step is to look at the hardware.

The picture below is from normcar21 via FM. He shot this with a 1D3. He said he had only a second to get it, and wouldn't have been able to do it with a 1D2. That's how good this camera is.

Ok so finally saw the pic. It doesn't impress me much. If the squirrel was razor-sharp, it would be more impressive.

^^ No it's not that sharp, but to be able to get that picture at all means it's a pretty damn good camera.

You do have to wonder if this newest fix might not also be needed for the 1Ds mark 3. After all even the old 4fps model saw a good deal of sports use. At 5fps the newest version will clearly be seeing some action now as well.

Though I still say now is the time to jump on a used Mk2 N and leave the fixes to someone else for now and save a few pennies...

So far, I have heard no complaints from any 1DsIII user, the problem seems to be limited to the 1DIII.

^^ As much as I as been reading, there is no problem with the 1Ds3, it's set up differently inside, it's not a speedster.

I noticed no problems with my 1D3, but sent it to have them my sure that the sub mirror was properly installed, before I'd do the latest firmware update. Got it back yesterday, I have not shot with it yet.

The AF system seems pretty solid with the 1.2.3 firmware. Check out this "video" at 10FPS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5_eW...eature=related

That's not an easy target by any means either!

I'm just waiting to see the details of what's coming out in September, but the 1D3 is back on the list now that I think it's fixed. Of course by that time, the rumors for the 1D3N will be out and I'll probably end up keeping the 30D's until the shutters blow up.

That what I'm say you don't want any dots, yellow, blue or white dots in the battery compartment. Stay away from them. You want one that was made after April 2008.
