I can't imagine holding that monster at a distance and then framing with the
LCD. I think my arms would fall off.

Focusing is manual Only with live view, similar to the 20Da. No surprise there.
If anyone wonders why this was pretty predictable, it's because for SLRS, when you shoot, the image bounces off the mirror, onto special autofocus sensors. SLRS do NOT use the regular CCD to focus, which is why the focus faster & more accurately than non SLRS.
In order to have live view, you must lift the mirror so the sensor sees the image.
With the mirror raised, you block the normal autofocus sensor.

its a Core Duo camera! the specs are ridiculous.

You don't have to worry about holding it while looking at the LCD, because the Live View can be used wirelessly! 
You can do remote previewing and capture from a laptop with WiFi and Canon's wireless transmitter.
That has to be great for sports shooters who hide their cameras all over the arena and trigger them with pocket wizards.
I'm only on page 11 of the white paper and I'm ready to sign the check.
- ISO 3200 just as usable as ISO 1600 on the 1D mark IIn, and low iso shots have 50% less shadow noise.
- AF points can be tweaked in software so front-focus and back-focus issues are a thing of the past.
- Pixels shrunk, but they managed to keep the photodiodes the same size thanks to innovations in microlenses.

If I'm reading correctly, with the wireless transmitter, you can record pictures wirelessly to an external USB hard drive - or any other USB memory device... very cool!

Ok, I'm done my first read of the PDF.
I'm blown away by this camera. Canon obviously listens to the people who buy their cameras because they have fixed just about every annoyance and developed a ton of new features for this model.
Here are some other neat little things that caught my eye in the later half of the PDF:
- virtual crop lines in remote live preview
- silent shooting mode (amazing for wedding photogs)
- safety shift ISO
- double the battery life, yet the battery is 40% smaller and 46% lighter.
- new Ec-c IV focus screen for less grainy and brighter focusing
- user defined "my menu" that lets you place "bookmarks" to 6 of your most used menu items
-Same price as the 1DmkIIn at launch - $3995!

The 1DmkIIn is an amazing camera, but what boggles my mind is the 1DmkIII has so many improvements that it took a 63-page whitepaper to explain them all!

im thinking my next camera is gonna be full frame so whenever they come out with a full frame censored camera like the 1Ds thats like that one ima go for that, well probably an equiv 5D

The servers are getting hammered right now, but it's worth the download. The shadow detail and lack of shadow noise is amazing. The amount of highlight detail that's preserved is equally impressive. That's what 14-bits will get you.

So yeah....What a blessing that I'll be needing a DSLR by the end of summer. 
Man, that would make a GREAT wedding present!! 
Can't wait to see one up-close and try it out. I see a field trip to Henry's in my future!

That's cool, but 70db is still pretty loud, I think.
I wonder what the volume of the 20d is.
