...so, a couple weeks ago a friend ours (more my wife's friend than mine) got married... Rewinding back a few months ago, in a Hangouts group, she asked me if I knew of any good wedding photographers in town. Knowing that her wedding was going to be on a budget, the first question I asked her was what the budget was... And she replied something like like "under $1000" So, I went through explaining to her about how photogs charging "under $1000" most likely won't be very good and she'd be getting what she'd paid for. I told her that I would shoot it and most likely do a better job and she wouldn't even have to pay me. She never took my offer and to be honest, I was a little offended... I found out later that the ONLY reason why she didn't want to have me shoot it, was because she wanted ME to enjoy the ceremony/reception as a guest and NOT be running around shooting pictures... and for that, I DO respect her decision.
Anyways, so she got her pictures back recently and she's NOT pleased... I don't think she's mad either because it kinda falls under the... "oh well... I got what I paid for..." (and no, I didn't ask her how much she paid... maybe someday in a conversation, I may casually bring it up). She said some pics were okay... and weren't bad, but there were a bunch that looked like this:

...and then there's this

Just thinking out loud here. But would you guys still buy a D700? I just happened to notice that they can be had for just a hair under $1000.

In case you all missed it, Leica announced some new gear at photokina... The two that seem to be making the biggest splash are the M-A, which is all-mechanical 35mm film. Not even auto metering. Details: Leica M-A // Leica M // Photography - Leica Camera AG
The other one is the M Edition 60, which is digital but doesn't have an LCD or any other way to review photos in-camera. Oh, and it's damn near $20k - Details // Leica M Edition 60 // Leica M // Photography - Leica Camera AG

I asked this question over at the Lightroom thread but maybe it's getting off topic, so just going to post it again here:
So, at Costco (Canadian Costco that is... so, "Canadian Pricing"), they have a WD 4TB external hard drive for $220 that's wifi/cloud enabled, and a regular WD 4TB for $169...anyone know much about these wifi/cloud models? Are they worth it? Or just get the regular ones?

I think the WD MyCloud drives are pretty slick. ArsTechnica gave the 2TB drive a pretty good review early this year (link).
Just remember it's not backup - just storage. You'll want to back stuff up in case the drive fails.

that does help justify it.
