No I didn't mean above 3k = pro. I meant above that. 1d, d4, h4d, phase one, etc. Thats the 'pro' im talking about. You make it seem like the d800 is some exotic sports car camera. It's not. Im only speaking price wise. I personally think its one of the best cameras out right now. (maybe the best?). Alright I gotta shoot photos at a salon. Will continue this later.

Being frugal and selective because of the price is, lets just say "out there" for the amount of $$$.
I watched a guy almost loose two days of shooting last month, because he was using the cheapest ass cards he could, in a $5000.00 camera. He was lucky, but he spent over three hours recovering his images.

$100 only gets you 400 photos with this camera. But actually my concern has more to do with processing and time involved with copying and importing files, etc. If I had this camera, I WOULD be as frugal as possible with it, just so I could be as efficient with it as possible so I wouldn't have to get home and process 300gb of photos. Make sense?
#4486
Why buy an item just to be afraid or limit yourself to using it?
#4487
You know, memory cards should be at the bottom of this list for this camera. Not having good lenses, such as the 14-24, 24-70, and "G" primes, should be at the top, then having a good tripod and ballhead, should be second.

I can certainly see where you are coming from. And I know there will be a day when sorting and processing through 300gb of images (just a general figure for a general # of photos from a day) will be quick and easy to do. That day is not here yet, for me at least. But I still would like to get this camera. And, it is very much within reach (I mean it's not like a phase one or something). So, if I got one, I'd be selective with it. Or, I'd use or of the smaller image modes. Ultimately I think the camera would make me a better photographer.

</aside>[News] Hasselblad Cameras See Major Price Reduction
After the merger of Broncolor and Hasselblad in the United States, it was only a matter of time before we saw more news on the global front from the camera giant. Hasselblad has released the announcement of a major price reduction, over 20% off in some cases in Europe.
From Hasselblad.se:
“We’ve discounted prices on a number of models by up to 22.9% – that’s a massive 3,565 euros off the cost of a new H4D-31 (incl 35-90mm lens). And now our ultimate photography tool – the H4D-60, is down 6,200 euros to €23,900.
The time for change has come. Until now for many the idea of owning a Hasselblad has been little more than a dream. Just an aspiration.
See that asterisk at the end there? Here’s the caveat to the lens deal: “Please note that this offer is only eligible, when buying an H4D camera with lens and the second Hasselblad H lens by July 31st 2012. Please note that this offer is not available on trade-in cameras or any other units and does not apply to existing camera owners.”
This is a bold step, and may be a direct result of Nikon and Canon gear getting considerably better every year. With this price reduction in Europe, US natives can only hope we’ll see it stateside soon. Will you be picking up a shiny new Hasselblad?

- Now you can go as far as your dream will take you – for a lot less money.
- Now the H4D-31 (incl. 35-90mm lens) is reduced by 3,565 euros; H4D-40 unit is down by 1,000 euros; the H4D-50 by 3,000; the H4D-60 is down 6,200 euros; the H4D-50MS by 3,000; the H4D-200MS by 4,500 and the CFV-50 Digital Back by 2,000 euros.
- You can get substantial discounts on new Hasselblad H System cameras by simply trading in your old gear. And now, for the first time, you can trade in from a CF-22 and CFV-39 to a CFV-50!
- PLUS: In a separate stand-alone offer customers who buy a new Hasselblad and lens before the end of July will be eligible to purchase a second lens at just 50% of the manufacturer’s recommended sales price*.”
See that asterisk at the end there? Here’s the caveat to the lens deal: “Please note that this offer is only eligible, when buying an H4D camera with lens and the second Hasselblad H lens by July 31st 2012. I'm tempted too, but just having a 14mm lens isn't going to cut it for me, which means I'd have to spend more money on other lenses... and what they have to offer don't look very affordable... I just don't see a reason for me to spend more money on another mount. I'm better off picking up a Sony NEX-5n + adapter to use with all my A-mount lenses The 5n actually produces some very nice IQ's... (dare I say it? better than my a77 in some side-by-side comparisons ).

I hear you. For me, since I have GF1, it feels like buying the 14mm lens and getting a free GF3 with it. I'm on the fence tho and I think I won't do it at this point.

it's crazy how many different adapters they have for the NEX line (so you can use other mount lenses)... it really opens up a lot of options (yes, I understand you lose I.S. but still...)

I remember when the 5D Mark III came out all the haters were like "its no different than a 5D Mark II" No idea what those people were thinking.
Canon EOS 5D Mark III Review: Digital Photography Review

Indeed the 5D name itself is almost misleading; compared to its predecessor the Mark III is essentially a completely new model, with every major system upgraded and updated. In a way it's better seen as a full-frame 7D, with that camera's control layout, extensive customizability and 63-zone metering sensor. But it also gains a raft of additional tweaks and improvements in response to customer feedback; these range from dual slots for CF and SD cards, through a locking exposure mode dial, to a large depth of field preview button that's repositioned for right-handed operation, and can be reprogrammed to access a number of other functions.

I miss my 03 CL-S :(
On the line back to the buses after the airshow this weekend I chatted with the dude in front of us - he had a Mk III. He previously had a 50D (which I have) which he then upgraded to a 7D, which he then upgraded to a 5DII. So he's been through a few bodies in the past few years.
He described the 5DIII as a FF 7D as well.

I don't agree with saying its like a FF 7D. The 5D3 has the AF from the 1DX for crisssakess! and it has way better high-ISO performance, along with the other new upgraded features.

It was a tempting deal, not one I needed to jump on, though I do want that 14mm.
I got other irons in the fire at the moment that need tending.

...so, tonight, I learned a lesson the hard way. I was asked by a friend's friend if I can take some photos of his restaurant/lounge as a favor. They want to put up a site for this new establishment and need some photos that's better than random stuff people take with their P&S.
By no means, do I consider myself pro or anyone to be charging money for any work. I was a nervous about agreeing to this, but then... I figured... why not? I'd do it for the experience, and it's not like they are going to ask for their money back if they're not happy. The problem is, I'm still learning using the flash... I still prefer portraits with natural/ambient lighting... but using the flash (prior to tonight) was basically just mounting the flash and let the camera/TTL do it's thing.
So, tonight was just a trial run... it's a Wednesday night, it's going to be pretty slow I get there and I immediately started taking some photos, and the owner's girlfriend wasn't liking what she was seeing. This place, like most restaurants/lounges... has a dark atmosphere... one corner has a blue-ish/purple light... and all of the test shots weren't showing this blue light, which is what she wanted. See photo below:
It got to a point where she was getting annoyed and I can tell she's whining to her boyfriend (the owner) in Korean that she's not happy where this was going (even though I don't speak Korean). Again, mind you... they're not even paying me for this. I'm a bit embarrassed because I don't know what else to do.
Then, it hit me It's the damn white balance I need to fiddle with. So, with my camera, it has a pretty cool color spectrum thingy for white balance (see stock photo below)
so, I put the little dot towards the blue part and the first random shot was this: (random shot of one of their waitresses)
I showed it to the owner and his girlfriend and they said "That's it!"
phewwww
So, the lesson here is... Understand White Balance! I need to get cracking on some reading up
I'm suppose to go back on a busier night to take the actual shots, while I'm glad I learned the lesson tonight... I'm intimidated with the owner's gf She reminded me why I'm NOT into Asian girls

Better lesson...never let the client look over your shoulder as you shoot.
They NEVER understand the concept of post production and final color.

Would you guys buy a 5DII that looks like new but had its shutter replaced by Canon recently (refurbished). Someone on CL has one for $1700 locally. I'm not sure what to think about that...
