Sounds logical. When the D3 was released, didn't Nikon all but say that they expected a followup to that body in relatively short order?

Someone also noted 1959 as the debut of the F series....50 years.

I can't see them getting into the MP wars to that degree unless that 50MP camera is going up against Hassy.

Saw someone joke that maybe they're announcing the retirement of the F-mount, but I can't see that. They just don't hate us as much as Canon does.

retiring the F mount wouldnt make sense. I dont believe the 50mp either.

50th anniversary yeah...I'd be shocked to see them go MF.

So, I'm just holding to hopes of some amazing D3x...with NOOOO fucking video.

I think PMA is also in February, so this would be a good event to release something new. My money is on the D3x, but the rumors of a MF body coming from Nikon would also make sense for this "BIG" event.

On the one hand, I want to say why would Nikon get into medium format? On the other hand, there is most definitely a hole in the market for medium format digital that's priced within the realm of sanity. I'm just not sure how much demand there actually is for products that fit that niche.

I like what the competition is doing to the product lines, but I hope they don't both fall into the "war of useless features" mode for the prosumer models...

Maybe it saves images to one of those new fangled 1.44MB floppy discs??

That would be cool...

Interesting.
D3x sounds plausible.

I wonder if they will come out with something on the same performance lines of the 1DsMkIII

Medium format seems to be the implication here.

Also note the announcement is not being made at the usual photo shows, but is being made at WPPI -
which is short for 'Wedding and Portrait Photographers International',
so it should be something that those groups are particularly interested in.

I really like BT but this was on Nikon's part. Any municipal festival can also book BT.

thinking about it more, I don't think they would leave their fans hanging like that and only announce a BT concert.

i dont really think so, no rumors have been popping up, plus you dont really need an arena to announce a new product.

think about the chain of events (as a timeline) leading up to the "announcement" of this BT concert. It doesn't really make much sense, if that's all it is.
