Best Camera for $450 or less...

Shutter speed and ISO are both important.

I need the camera by next Wednesday at the latest...

Any ideas?

I saw a SD500? for $250 shipped I think.

TIA.

What size are you looking for? Do you want something you can stick in a pocket?

I've got an SD550 for my point and shoot - it takes excellent pictures. I don't think you can go wrong with a Canon Elph from the SD450 onward.

Size is secondary, IMO...

What's the best camera in that price range?

What other cameras, besides point/shoot, are avaliable at such a low price anyway?

You can probly get into a Canon S3 IS for $450. 12x optical zoom, 6MP. Its the tits as far as sub SLR camera's go. I'd also look into a PowerShot S80. Should be well below $450.

Thanks. Buy.com has the S3 for $415 w/free shipping.

How does the SD700 measure up? It's the same price.

Thanks.

Your getting more camera in the S3 IS as far as manual options go. Both have optical image stabilization and the same effective ISO. The high price of the SD700 vs the S3 is basically in its size. The S3 uses 4 AA's while the 700 using a lithium rechargeable. I'd wait for Dan Martin to chime in before making a decesion though.

You can do a direct comparison.

Thanks. Looks like the S3 is more flexible with regards to shutter speed as well. I'll pass this info along to my friend...

Btw- what is digital ELPH. I notice that the SD700 advertises this, but I don't see it on the S3.

My friend was also looking at the Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 and Panasonic DMC-FZ7.

ELPH refers to Canon's small pocket-sized cameras. The S3 is in the "large" category for P&S cams so it doesn't get the funky ELPH designation.

The S3 would get my recommendation, followed closely by the Sony DSC-H5. The tilt and swivel screen on the S3 wins it for me.

Never played with one, but it looks nice and has received some good reviews.

I have a Canon S3

Not bad, I'm still learning how to use all the different modes though
