Ballhead advice?

So currently I have a Manfrotto 055XPRO tripod with a pan tilt head which I'm not all to fond of, Really would like to upgrade to a ball head. Don't really have the 3 or $400 for a really right stuff head thinking more along the lines of maybe 100 or 150 range. If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated. I plan on buying the canon 70-200L is F2.8 next month.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...f_2_8L_IS.html

Which weighs in at close to 3.5lbs plus the body weight So will need something that will be able to at least support that also want a quick release.

Just curious...What kind of pan/tilt do you have? What is it about it that you don't like?

804RC2 head not a fan of all the levers and with a bigger telephoto lens where I'm connecting the lens to the tripod instead of the body I think a ball head would be a lot easier to work with

hmm....interesting. It's funny I like the distinct levers for adjustment. I find that when I adjust the vertical, or horizontal, i lose the level on the shot. I know ball heads are popular, but I think they are hard to work with.

btw....have you looked at Induro heads? I love mine.

Check this one out. It has an 18.7lb capacity. Quick release, and one lever to fool with.

I have the PHT0 pan tilt head. But it's kinda unique because there are 2 levers and a knob for adjustment. But the two levers fold down. Very cool for fitting into a bag or just getting out of the way. Mine is only rated for 11 pounds....in hind sight, I should have gotten the next model up to handle more weight if needed.

Nah....11 pounds is plenty. I just live in fantasy world sometimes.

But it is a cool tripod head.

I have and Induro panhead and 'upgraded' to an Induro BHS1 ballhead. I like the ballhead a lot more, mostly because of it's size vs. the panhead and then the ease of adjustment is great too.

The BHS1 has been great, no complaints and I paid around $65.

I have the Manfrotto 496RC2 and it has zero problems handling my 7D and the 70-200 2.8L IS. That ballhead and my 190CXPRO4 have been very versatile for me and served for everything from panning shots of the Shuttle as it flew by to some very steady shots of the moon with the 70-200 2.8L IS.

Thats what I am currently using for my main piece, with a Grip'd T1i and used70-200L, 70-300L, & 400L without issues before...It comes with two quick release adapters as well so you can leave one on you telephoto for balance correction when you use it.

lol, just noticed the post above mine, good choice and i'll leave this for reference if anyone else is looking around
