Holy shit, Srika...you have such an eye/talent. So captivating...
I'll keep truckin along...one day I'm hoping to make visual impacts like that.

you know, I'm really getting into light these days, and I gotta say that's one of the best things to learn and focus on - lighting subjects in creative ways. It's a key way to build drama and mood and I love the challenging aspect of it.

I tend to be drawn to the things of the past (double edge razors, classic cars, jazz, etc) and the film has a quality about it that I really like.

That was ASA400 Ilford XP2, and I would like to try some lower ASA film as well, including some color.

I have to say that these pics were not as good as I would have liked. Part of it was the fact that the battery for the internal light meter should be a 1.3v mercury battery and they are just not available anymore, so I used a 1.5v and it made the meter read "hot". Additionally, I am using a 55mm F3.5 macro lens that is supposed to be a great lens, but I am having a bit of trouble finding the sweet spot for non-macro (ok, macro, too as in the above wood texture shot where the top of frame is slightly OOF) shots in terms of getting the correct DOF and sharpness. Tough to do when you can chimp!

Just a curiosity question...

For those of you posting Black and Whites, do you take the picture knowing that it will be a B+W or do you take the picture "seeing" it in color and later decide it should be in B+W?

A little of both. Some times I know it's going to be BW depending on the conditions. Other times I think color, and try it in BW and if I like it I keep it.
Examples - the Philly city shot above falls into the latter category. The empty building above I knew was going to be BW.

I do both.

But because I love the Fuji jpegs. I will shoot JPEG in B&W, plus raw, on some outings. So I see it on the back of my camera in B&W as I go along.

Great question.

Yeah I do both too. But most of the time I just take a shot and worry about that later. Highlights / Shadows, contrast, and combinations of those translate well to B&W scenes. Same goes for strong colors and variations. For my "Street" series 99% of those are B&W so I do have that in mind when taking those photos.

Sometimes I'll put on B&W mode on the camera for practice. But most of the time shoot in color and go B&W in Lightroom.
