Has car and driver, motor trend or anyone else done a test on the Golf R?? I would like to read that.
edit: not a first drive review, one that they were able to hook up their equipment to test 0-60, braking etc.
#726
Not yet. The US bound version isn't available for another year.
Considering I believe it was C/D that got 0-60 in 5.4 for the fat and underpowered R32, they ought to do at least that much in the Golf R.

Yeah, plus the ease of modding the 2.0T should have a lot of appeal. I was expecting them to drop in a 2.0T in the R32 since the Mk5. I wonder how it'll sound compared to the VR6 though, cause R32s sound great

Ohh i didnt know that. If thats so, this car has more hp, trq, and its lighter. Hmm so maybe expect low 5's high 4's. That would be awesome if it can pull that off.

no test drives
Maybe a manufacturer like Ferrari not allowing test drives on their Enzo or some crap like that. But for a Golf R? I freaking love that car, but you'll basically have to force me to buy a car without test driving it first.

Word is that the golf R will have the FSI engine and not the new TSI engine.
Apparently the FSI engine is already US certified in the Audi TTS.
To certify the TSI engine would have been cost prohibitive.

You would be surprised
There are enough people that just go along with the program to get the hot set-up. You may have enough juice to manage a drive if enough land in your area. If I can't test drive what I'm interested in, I lose interest.

I dont understand why? I would also need a test drive in order to buy my car. Even though I think I already love this car a test drive needs to be done. Maybe you go to the dealer
Aren't the TSI engines more reliable? And they dont have chains for the timing belt correct? Or I dunno if its technically called a timing belt if it has chains.
I remember the FSI engines had quite a few more problems than the TSI.

Subject: Golf R will soon join the Volkswagen Lineup VW Brand Department
December 9, 2010 Date
You had a first look at the European Golf R at the Atlanta Dealer Meeting in September and
soon it will be in your showroom…but not for long!
Today we announced the Golf R will be produced in a limited quantity that will be available for
sale at the start of 2012. This race inspired model will enhance Volkswagen’s “performance
image” with its 256 hp 2.0T engine. In racing tradition, the Golf R will be available only in a
manual transmission and standard features will include: all wheel drive, Premium 8 Radio, 18”
alloy wheels, leather interior, xenon headlights, Climatronic and Bluetooth. It will be available in
either 2dr or 4dr and a fully equipped version that includes sunroof, Navigation, Dynaudio sound
system, and “Kessy” keyless entry.
Our strategy for announcing this exciting vehicle a year in advance is to build interest and
demand amongst enthusiasts so we will have a high percentage of these vehicles pre-sold prior
to market introduction. This announcement is the beginning of a series of actions we have
planned for 2011 - 2012 to expose this vehicle to enthusiast groups.
The Golf R will add to Volkswagen’s “performance halo”, which has positive spill-over to our
volume models. It also represents a unique profit opportunity for our Dealers. Please stay tuned
for more details about the exciting Golf R in the coming months.
The Golf R was my personal choice of car while I was based in Wolfsburg. I can promise you
driving it brings a smile to your face every time!
