Ok. I can understand that. I thought it was a complaint about resources.
I still think the concept of a chick car is outdated.
I've seen women in M3s, S5s, Z06s, 370Zs ... I wouldn't consider any of them a chick car.
I don't think women think about cars the same way they did even 10 years ago.

This is what I see: if Toyota can increase sales with this convertible, then they'll have more money to put into future versions of the FR-S.
More FR-S sales = likelihood of Toyota keeping FR-S around longer.

Those cars you mentioned are $45k+ high performance sports cars. Even chicks that get these cars know what they're buying. A FR-S convertible will be in the same price range as the Beetle and Mini Cooper convertible and they're all over high school and college parking lots.

I'd never get a car that wasn't designed from the ground up to be exclusively a roadster. The prime exception to end all exceptions would the the Aventador Roadster, but I digress.
The FR-S vert looks great, smart move to grab some more sales. I wouldn't buy one but I at people up in arms at this, it's not like they discontinued the hardtop and made the vert the sole option.

Caring about what other guys think of your car is the true definition of gay.
So guys calling miatas girls cars are compensating for a lack of something.
A miata is an amazing auto-x car.

Some dude
I don't know how anyone can be shocked or appalled by this car. It makes perfect financial sense for Toyota to build this car and target a market they currently can't.
I hate the interior color combo, it reminds me of sherbet. I'm fine with the topless look of the car overall. Not something I'd buy over the coupe, but definitely not ugly.
If your ego can't handle it, stick to pickup trucks... lifted pickup trucks... with Monster stickers everywhere... and Calvin peeing on the nearest competitors logo.

Scion FR-S-Based Sedan In The Works
From here: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...e-works-report
Toyota may soon launch an affordable rear-wheel-drive sedan based on the bones of its Scion FR-S sports car. That’s the claim of a new report coming out of Australia.
Citing an inside source, Car Sales is reporting that Toyota is looking at several different models based on its rear-wheel-drive platform jointly developed with Subaru and currently found in the aforementioned FR-S as well as the GT 86 sold overseas and the BRZ sold by Subaru.
One is a convertible based on the FT 86 Open concept, though low projected sales is believed to have axed the project. Another is a shooting brake-style wagon and a third is a sedan, the most likely of the trio to make production. Why? Because it would be relatively unique in the market, especially if priced close to the $25,455 starting price, including destination, of the FR-S.
Such a car would appeal to buyers after a small sporty car but need the extra practicality of rear doors and seats. According to the report, the new sedan’s wheelbase would be about 4 inches longer than that of the FR-S.
The FR-S’ 200-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine would be the standard powerplant, though a hybrid setup, something that’s also rumored for the FR-S, is said to be available as an option. This hybrid setup is reported to be a detuned version of the setup featured in Toyota’s recent Yaris Hybrid-R concept, with a single electric motor paired up with the boxer engine.
If the report is accurate, the FR-S-based rear-wheel-drive sedan will hit showrooms around the end of 2015.

I like the idea. I would love to see a small, RWD, 4-seat sedan with 250-hp, a manual transmission, and great driving feel. Ever since owning the Miata, I have wondered what it would be like to have a car that is light and agile like the Miata, but with seating for 4 people and a real trunk. This sounds like it is right up that alley.

Ironic coming from a person w/ a BMW 3 series? There's the 3 series coupe, sedan, wagon, GT, convertible, and soon 4 door gran coupe. Then, there are M versions of several of those vehicles on top of that. Seems like multiple derivatives of a standard platform has not hurt BMW at all.

[sigh] Nothing ironic at all about my comment. There's nothing "special" or "unique" about a 3-series, per se. The FR-S/BRZ was intended to be the return to the fun sport coupe. A return to what made cars fun and it was specifically designed a certain way from the beginning. It has sold well, so now Toybaru are trying to create a bunch of bastardized derivatives to exploit the model name. However, chopping the top off this car, or giving it 4 doors will completely change its character; it will no longer be what made it special.

I personally believe Toyota/Subaru will find their ways to make the sedan work.
I mean they did come out with FRS/BRZ. Don't think they will mess it up.

So why can't they make a few variants to satisfy the needs of different drivers? I think a convertible is a natural extension of a coupe platform. And creating a sedan offers people who need the extra space a chance to enjoy the characteristics that make the car so enjoyable. It would be nice to have a sedan based on modern technology, is RWD, and weighs less than 3000 lbs. Might be fun to have something like that on the market again.

Come on, can we be a little more optimistic on this? If this soon to be released FRS sedan has similar characteristics of FRS, I would love to get one for a daily driver over WRX.
And honestly, if this news was for Acura, I would be pessimistic as usual. But this is Toyota/Subaru which had enough balls to develop and release FRS/BRZ. Think they will somehow come out with a nice sporty RWD seden around 25k price tag.

Given the pricing constraints, I guess I'm just skeptical they'll be able to maintain the special qualities of the FR-S/BRZ and make the requisite changes for the car to become a convertible and/or a sedan. Variations on that scale cost a hell of a lot of money and given where this car is priced, I'm not sure there's enough profit available to fund doing this the right way. I hope I am wrong, but if they shortcut their way through the changes to rush the variations to market, they'll make a mess of the car.

Maybe it's the color combo, but it looks a bit girlie to me.
It does look good though.
