Las Vegas 11/02/2004 --
Acura today unveiled an A-SPEC performance package for its RL luxury performance sedan at the 2004 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas. It will go on sale in the spring of 2005 at Acura dealers nationwide.
The all-new Acura RL, which went on sale last month, features a bold new design, a powerful 300-horsepower engine, the SH-AWD all-wheel drive system and an assortment of leading-edge technology including a real time traffic information system. The RL A-SPEC package enhances the already crisp handling and aggressive styling with a track-tuned suspension package that lowers the car by approximately 3/4 inch, 18-inch alloy wheels equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport tires, an underbody kit, and a deck lid spoiler. The RL A-SPEC kit will be priced at approximately $5,500 plus dealer installation and covered under a factory warranty.
In addition to the A-SPEC equipped RL, Acura featured an assortment of high performance models by import tuners and racing companies. Making their debut at SEMA were
two unique versions of Acura's hot-selling TSX sports sedan. The Comptech TSX, supercharges the 2.4-liter TSX engine and adds a cold air intake, plus a stainless header and exhaust system to increase horsepower from 200 to 240. Comptech springs, a rear sway bar and 18-inch tires increase handling precision while lending an even more aggressive look. The second TSX on display was the RealTime Racing TSX racecar driven by Pierre Kleinubing on the 204 SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge circuit.
Tuner icon RJ DeVera debuted his own interpretation of a high performance Acura TL performance luxury sedan. DeVera, who showcased a modified Honda Accord at last year's SEMA, utilized a combination of RO_JA and other aftermarket accessories with Acura A-SPEC parts to create a car aimed squarely at today's enthusiast buyer. It features an A-SPEC suspension, a custom RO_JA body kit, and a Comptech supercharger.
Also appearing in the Acura booth was a heavily modified Acura NSX supercar customized by Super Street Magazine and XMOS RC Racing. Featured on the October cover, this NSX was offered as first prize in the 2004 XMODS XRL National Tournament. It features over $30,000 in modifications from Volk, Rotora, Taitec and others.

Comptech Supercharger - $3600 (est)
Comptech Intake - $180
Comptech Header - $569
Comptech Exhaust - $895
Realizing that you just spent $5244 to get 40 HP!!?!?!? - Priceless...

40hp doesn't sound right either. The DAZZ/HKS turbocharged TSX put out 350hp but I'm not sure at how many PSI. http://www.importtuner.com/features/0407it_covercar/

It's almost unbelievable, but is their interpretation of "supercharging" the TSX actually their twisted way of saying they increase the induction by means of a CAI, header and exhaust? If not, then it means the actual supercharger is actually worth less than 25 hp gain, given the I/H/E will actually give some power itself.
Unless the SC output is mild enough to work with the stock ECU. (<4PSI)

sad. rumors of 300+ HP with (and more importantly) 240 lb./ft. of torque down the drain. By the way, I'm a Forced Induction noob...
Let's say down the road in a year I decide to get the S/C. Does it void warranty? Does getting, lets say, 240 HP require new Headers, Gaskets, Pistons, etc..
What kind of fuel losses can I expect? Any info on what the advantages (self-explanatory) and disadvantages are. Thanks.

Well whats up with the release date.. cause to me.. a 240 hp tsx is still way better than a 200 hp one... but im not sure about the price... im keeping my fingers crossed for better numbers..

You can't have it both ways (High HP increases and Factory Warranty). Don't tell me you honestly expected Acura to warranty something that increased the power of the stock engine and stock internals by 100+ HP.
If the comptech supercharger is to be offered by Acura dealers as an option with full factory warranty 40 HP sounds about right.
If comptech is offering their S/C without the support of Acura or if it even voids the Acura warranty, then the 40 HP number is very dissapointing.

Sure the SC hasn't been released yet. I'm basing my statements on their history with this car (poor) and the stated output in the article.

Take a look at this picture, I think comptech intended the horsepower to be 240 WHP. I would be embrassed to bring out a I/H/E supercharged TSX =p

haha, talkin about reading berween the lines, i'm saying wait until the product comes out before making decisions about it. for instance, you can go on and on about how great a hondata would be, but what if it wasnt? what if they never release it?
way back in the day, dc sports made great headers, my friend has the jdm style stainless steel 4-1 header on his ITR. no problems for several years now. but the tsx header falls apart.
and how ridiculous would you have been if you were to say that the dc sport header for the tsx would have yielded so much power only now to realize that it sucked?
history means nothing in car industry. injen was considered a poor alternative to aem for CAI a few years back, and now it's renowned - esp. in the tsx community.
so all in all - all i have to say is wait. screw the article. it's not offically released by comptech, and until then, speculation is worthless.
