Only a 4.8!? Wow. What are they feeding that thing. Thats not exactly great news seeing as the 335 ran a 4.8. I was really expecting the new G35 to run similar numbers as well. Hopefully Nissan can do better than 382 horses leading to a 4.8.

Here is the official information on the 2007 350Z. The GT-S will not be released here in the US from what I have been reading:

The 2007 Nissan 350Z is scheduled to go on sale in January 2007. The changes for the new model year will include new exterior colors, a new gray colored convertible top (Roadster models), Active Head Restraints and performance enhancements including a new VQ35HR engine.

The 2007 350Z will again be available in Coupe and Roadster body styles and in an array of models – five for the Coupe, including a Grand Touring model, and three for the Roadster (including the Grand Touring automatic transmission version).

2007 Z remains the true sports car that fuels the rebellious spirit with added power, enhanced performance and updated hood. 306 HP on all models, vehicle speed sensitive power steering, increased brake rotor size for non-Brembo brakes and 18" cast alloy wheels are standard features. The Grand Touring Coupe comes equipped with meaty 18" front and 19" rear RAYS super-lightweight 5-spoke forged alloy wheels.

2007 Z also remains a leader in technology and style - both inside and out. The interior includes an available Bluetooth Hands-free Phone system, Nissan Navigation System, MP3 CD capability for the Bose audio system, revised tachometer and knee pads.

Key exterior styling features such as standard bi-xenon headlights and LED rear brake lights further enhance the bumper, headlights and grille. Finally, a new hood to accomodate the new engine and three new colors are sure to make heads turn.

350Z Coupe
It all starts with a 306 HP, 268 lb. ft of torque, 3.5 liter V6 6 speed manual transmission, 18" aluminum wheels, HID bi-xenon headlights, automatic Temp control (ATC), Tire pressure monitoring system, CD audio system and heated outside mirrors.

Touring (coupe/roadster)
Dials up the amenities with Bose audio system with in dash 6 cd changer, Bluetooth hands free phone system (coupe only), leather appointed heated power seats and Vehicle Dynamic Control (coupe manual transmission only)

Grand Touring (coupe/roadster)
Includes all Touring coupe equipment, plus: Vehical Dynamic Control (VDC), Brembo braking system, RAYS super lightweight 18" front and 19" rear forged alloy wheels, high performance tires, front chin spoiler, (coupe only), rear underbody diffusers and rear spoiler (coupe only)

Satellite Radio (XM or Sirius) (Coupe only - Touring or Grand Touring)
Side and Curtain Air Bags (Coupe only - 350Z, Enthusiast, Touring or Grand Touring)
Side Air bags (std. on Roadster)
In order to fit the new VQ35HR from the new G35, the hood had to be modified. I personally think this looks ugly and I'm glad I got the 06 model.

The power increase in this case is probably closer to 20-25 HP.

No. It is a 12hp difference.

The "rev-up" VQ in the 2006 350z was rated at 300hp. It is now rated by the new SAE standards at 294hp.

The difference is 12hp (306 vs 294) which is better, but not a huge difference and not worth it for the hump IMO.

The Infiniti "rev-up" of 298hp went down to 293hp under the new ratings and the old 280hp VQ went down to 275hp. Not a huge difference as the old VQ's were making close to their promised ratings.

Here's info from Infiniti themselves for the 2007 G35c

The rear-wheel drive G35 Coupe is powered by an award-winning VQ-series 3.5-liter V6 engine that, when mated to a 5-speed automatic, produces 275 horsepower. With a 6-speed manual transmission, the engine produces 293 horsepower. The G35 Coupe’s performance is enhanced by a 4-wheel independent suspension with lightweight aluminum components and highly aerodynamic styling.

This is a month old, but the November C&D had an article where they raced a number of stock cars around VIR. Here were the results for the class the Z was in. It came on top and actually beat the Evo MR.

Here is a link to the article:

http://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php?...2&postcount=65

best lap time (min:secs), peak speed (mph), max lateral g

1) 350Z Track - 3:12.5, 124.3, 0.9
2) Evo MR - 3:13.5, 124, 0.94
3) RX-8 - 3:19.0, 116.4, 0.86
4) Cobalt SS - 3:20.6, 117.1, 0.85
5) Mustang GT - 3:20.9, 119.3, 0.88
6) GTI - 3:25.1, 112.0, 0.82
7) Civic Si - 3:26.5, 111.6, 0.80
8) MX-5 - 3:29.3, 108.6, 0.83

It beat the Evo? Wow!

I haven't been in a 350Z since 2004, so how is the interior now, does it still look cheapy?

Did anyone noticed how they used a track model 350z? That runs for closer to 35 grand than 30. I dont see how that's fair

In the R&T article, the limit was 30k so they used the Evo RS and base model 350Z.

In the C&D article, the rules were that all cars in the 30k class had to have a base price below 30k. They asked the manufacturer to supply the fastest model of that car even if it went above 30k.

As you can see, they also used an Evo MR (the highest performing model of Evo) which is well over 30k - close to 36k actually

The Z holds it's own on a road course. An Evo will kill the Z in a tighter course like AutoX, but on a road course the results are about even between the 2 cars. In addition, the 03-05 Z was under-tired, but the new 06 Track model has wider rear tires (265's versus 245's) which help at the track.

The 2006 350Z's interior was redesigned. I had an 03 and now have an 06. The plastics are more sturdy and there are more soft touch surfaces inside as well. It's no Lexus, but it's definitely improved over the 03-05 model.

The downside is that the 06 Z gained about 150lbs mainly due to the interior, but the 300hp engine helped negate that issue.

I was just at a Nissan dealer last week and they had two 350Z's in the showroom, one was a loaded roadster for $64,000 the other, a basic coupe for $52,000.

This car really doesn't convert well into CDN dollars. An hour's drive to buffalo would be well worth the $20,000+ savings.

Post Nissan Launches Fairlady Z & Fairlady Z NISMO & Version Nismo 380RS-Competition

Neato!

Source: http://www.egmcartech.com/2007/01/12...rlady-z-nismo/

Nissan has unveiled its revised and enhanced version of the Nissan Z called the Fairlady Z. The Nissan Fairlady Z features the new VQ35HR engine and 80% of the parts from the original Z redesigned to increase performance. There is also a Fairlady Z Roadster with a new gray top color. While Fairlady Z may not be a strong and manly name, Nissan in collaboration with Autech Japan have made a higher-end performance version of the Fairlady Z called the Nissan Fairlady Z Version NISMO. The Nissan Fairlady Z Version NISMO has a 3.8 liter V6 HR-Series engine that produces 395 horsepower. Check out the press release below for more.

Revised Fairlady Z Features Enhanced Performance, Refined Exterior and Interior
– Factory-Backed Fairlady Z Version NISMO Also Released–

TOKYO — Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today launched nationwide sales of a new, revised Fairlady Z with a more powerful, next-generation engine, refined hood and new exterior and interior color availability.

Leading the changes to the new Fairlady Z is Nissan’s new VQ35HR engine with nearly 80% of major parts redesigned, providing improved acceleration and overall power for enhanced driving pleasure.

The exterior styling continues the Fairlady Z heritage, with the new hood design closely resembling that of the first generation Fairlady Z (S30). Three new body colors include Premium Passionate Orange (3P), a revival of the Gran Prix Orange body color of the original model.

Fairlady Z Roadsters offers a new gray top color that accentuates the exterior. On the inside, gray has been added to the available interior trim colors for a heightened impression of highly refined taste. Other enhancements include larger head restraints for more comfortable head support and adoption of Potenza RE050A tires to reduce road noise.

Major Fairlady Z specification and equipment changes

•Exterior
* Redesigned hood
* Addition of Premium Passionate Orange (3P*, special color), Dark Blue (P*) and Blade Silver (M*) exterior colors (a total of eight available)
* Adoption of a gray convertible top on the Roadster
*3P stands for three coats of Pearl, P for Pearl and M for Metallic
•Interior
* Addition of gray interior trim color
•Equipment
* Adoption of Active Head Restraints and a larger head restraint size
* Improved functionality of the DVD-based CARWINGS navigation system
* Change of tires to Bridgestone Potenza RE050A (from Potenza RE040)
•Mechanical
* Adoption of the VQ35HR engine, which delivers maximum power of 230 kW (313 PS)/6800 rpm, maximum torque of 358 N-m (36.5 kg-m)/4800 rpm and top engine speed of 7500 rpm

Introduction of Fairlady Z Version NISMO

Nissan Motor Sports International Co., Ltd. and Autech Japan, Inc., wholly owned Nissan affiliates, have jointly developed a new Fairlady Z Version NISMO, which launches today at Nissan dealers across Japan.

Based on the new Fairlady Z, the Version NISMO fuses NISMO’s extensive racing expertise, gained through competing in SUPER GT and other race series as the Nissan works team, with the Autech Japan’s extensive experience in manufacturing completely customized vehicles. The new model provides a heightened dimension of sporty driving pleasure, backed by the Fairlady Z’s renowned performance capabilities. The customl1 Version Nissan can be purchased at Nissan dealers nationwide and receives the same after-sales service as regular Fairlady Z models.

To help enhance driving performance, the Version NISMO’s body stiffness has been improved by increasing the welded area of the body panels and adding additional reinforcement bars and panels, among other measures. High-grip Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R tires have been adopted to absorb high input forces from the road surface. In addition, the suspension system has been totally retuned to further boost cornering performance. An optimum balance of handling and driving comfort has also been achieved by adopting Performance Dampers*2 that effectively damp force inputs to the body.

The exterior design was developed on the basis of meticulous studies conducted by the Design Group and the Vehicle Performance Testing Group. A supercomputer was used to run design simulations based on aerodynamic data collected with SUPER GT race cars. The distinctive body form obtained as a result provides superior handling and stability, together with aerodynamic characteristics for creating effective downforce.

The interior is also distinguished by its unique, premium-quality ambience, resulting from the use of exclusive metallic-looking genuine leather trim. Seats are upholstered with a perforated Alcantara®*3 center section that holds the body more firmly during sporty driving.

*1 Customized cars require on-site registration at a vehicle inspection and registration office.
*2 Manufactured by Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. and developed exclusively for the Version NISMO. The dampers connect the right and left side frame members at the front and rear of the car and serve to absorb body twisting and vibration.
*3 Alcantara® is an artificial suede leather manufactured by Toray Corporation.
Autech Japan, Inc. will continue to provide a Driving Helper lifecare vehicle (LV)* model based on the new Fairlady Z. This LV model is fitted with the Autech Driving Control Package Type E, a set of electronically controlled driving-assistance features designed for drivers with leg disabilities.
* : Nissan Group companies use the term lifecare vehicle (LV) for cars that are specifically designed to assist people with special mobility needs in their everyday lives.
