From the far shot pic, the wagon looks like an Audi.

Wow, way better looking than the Camry and Accord. Now let's see if it has the specs and driving dynamics to back it up. The 6 was arguably a better driver than even the Accord, let's see if Mazda keeps it up.

First, I have to give kudos to Mazda for having the most complete family in this class - who else can claim to have a sedan, hatchback and a wagon in this class? In fact, I can't really find anything else at all! OK, so BMW has a sedan, coupe and wagon within the same family, but not a hatchback though! I guess it's a different class though... LOL
... anyway, I am biased because I LOVE hatchbacks!
BTW, while I find the new Mazda 6 very good-looking (esp. the wagon and the hatchback! Wow, they are HOT HOT HOT!), they seem to target more towards the Altima buyers than the Accord buyers. The 6 and Altima seem to be more sporty, while the Accord and Camry seem to be more family oriented... personally, I think the new Accord is a great looking car - it's just great looking in a different sort of way than the 6.

To those that says this car looks like another car...umm, well its a car, how different do you want a new car to look? Of course a new car looks like other new cars! its a trend!
anyways, I would definitely hit it for MS6.

Wow. Looks awesome. WTF is wrong with Honda? I just hope the fuel economy is better on this than on the last-gen, because the Mazda 6 and Mazada 3's EPA ratings were pathetic compared to Honda's. I know a couple of people who have them and they also claim it uses lots of gas. I'll be looking out for that, and I definitely hope the interior is better than in previous Mazdas. Give me that and AWD and I'm ready to zoom zoom.

some sources are saying its going to be lighter and more fuel efficient than the current model so we'll see about that.
the new 3.7 with 260+ hp should do well in there

These are the best looking cars in its class. If the hatchback has half way decent rear headroom, I'd take that over the sedan any day.
I think the first shot of the white sedan looks like how an evolved TSX should look like. It has many of the styling cues as Honda/Acura's sport sedan concept released a couple of years ago and a very Acura like grille.

Unfortunately, the U.S. model, which may see the light of day at either November’s L.A. auto show or the Detroit auto show in January, will wear different sheetmetal. We're also told that it could ride on a completely different platform that the Euro-spec car. According to Mazda, this is because the North American car needs to “look bigger.” Car buyers, it says, think the current car looks too small in relation to other mid-size sedans.

^^What! They'd better offer a Mazda 5 or something, like how Acura did with the TSX. Sedan and hatchback exterior looks great, I see some cues from the RX-8, interior looks even better than the current 6, but still has Bose speakers...
I'm one of those people who like the looks of the 7G Accord (after the butt-lift) and I still think the new Accord is fugly.... this new 6 blows it away in regards to looks. Can't wait to hear the engine offerings, and they'd better offer the 6 in those pics in one way or another in the U.S.

Great look car... definitely the hotness. IMO, the best looking midsizer, now; followed by the new Malibu, Aura, and Accord. I'd drive the hatchback in a heartbeat; especially in the color shown in the pic.

but yea, i agree. on the u.s. production model being bigger - camry/accord size.

It's interesting that they took the design que from the S-Class's front fender of following the crescent shape crease around the wheel well, and then having a line rise toward the rear of the car here. Looks good in this application, IMO the crease isn't as severe as on the S-Class.

From another forum, individual apparently has reliable inside info........
ENGINES AND POWETRAINS
Base engine: 2.5l I4 - this is an all new engine developed by Ford oE and Ford NA (NOT Mazda the way the 2.3l was). This engine is more powerful, smoother, AND more economical than the 2.3l It is so much more economical that in the same car (like the Mazda6 or the 09 Fusion) the engine makes better EPA numbers than the smaller 2.3l.
2.5l I4, PFI, 190-200hp
Optional Engine: 3.7l V6 - this is a larger version for the Ford D35 engine. It is not the Lincoln version however. Mazda took the D35 head and the D37 block and bolted them together, increasing displacement and power, but keeping the basic D35 head with only single exhaust variable cam timing and all. This MazdaD37 will also appear in the 08 CX-9, but it will not appear in Fords - Ford will keep the D35 engine in its cars - including the 2009 Fusion, where the D35 will replace the D30.
3.7l, V6, PFI, 280hp
Other Engines: The 2 pieces uncertain at this point is the 2.5l TwinForce engine (Twin Turbochagged, direct injected I4 good for 260+ hp) and the Hybrid. the TwinForce is again a Ford oE and Ford NA project, and I do not know whether Mazda will want to use it. But it will produce V6 power with I4 economy- the engine will debut in the 09 Fusion.
The Hybrid is coming for the 09 Fusion, however nothing was mentioned about it for the Mazda6. I have no definitive info on the Mazda6 application of the new Hybrid, but I am certain that even if Mazda will use it, Ford will not let a single bit of info escape before Hybrid is announced for the 09 Fusion.
Transmissions are anyone's guess, but we can see that the pictures show a 6speed manual. I predict this will be a V6 option, with the I4 getting a 5speed manual, but that is just a guess. I predict 6 speed automatics with both engines. I have no definiteive information however.
AWD is to be optional on the new model

That's a nicely done design. I'd love on the wagon/avant version if they came in AWD. If not, I'd hope the Speed6 versions do. I would love a Speed6 wagon...

2008 Tokyo Auto Salon Preview: Mazda Showcases Atenza Mazdaspeed Concept
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...cleId=124032#2
HIROSHIMA, Japan — Mazda showed a bit of its hand for the upcoming 2008 Tokyo Auto Salon, releasing images of the Mazda Atenza Mazdaspeed Concept. The concept is a customized version of the new Mazda6, which is called the Atenza in the home market.
The Atenza Mazdaspeed Concept is based on the new Mazda Atenza that is set for launch in Japan in spring 2008. Show horses, not horsepower, are the main point here. The Japanese automaker will display tweaked versions of its lineup, including a Mazda Demio "Haru Iro" (spring colors) Collection in blue, pink and green.
Other vehicles set for the Tokyo Auto Salon include the Mazda CX-7 "Cool Style" Concept, with appearance upgrades that include chrome exterior trim with a brown interior, and the Mazda RX-8 Type RS, a new top-end model outfitted with 19-inch forged aluminum wheels, Bilstein dampers, urethane-foam-filled front crossmembers and custom Recaro bucket seats.
Mazda said it will feature a lineup of 16 customized vehicles at the 2008 Tokyo Auto Salon, which runs from January 11-13.
What this means to you: Just a little taste of how Mazda plans to strut its stuff at Tokyo's answer to SEMA. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

UK review of new Mazda6:
http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/tol...cle3082464.ece
Too bad rumors are that it's a Euro only model ...
http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/tol...cle3082464.ece
My trip revealed a car with first-rate body control, steering that really does feed back the road conditions, balance that lets you drift through fast corners and a chassis response that even lets you tighten the cornering line with a throttle lift mid-corner. In a group test with the aforementioned Germans, the 6 would give them all something to worry about.
Add to this a level of refinement that is among the best in the class when it comes to noise vibration at cruising speed, as well as a ride that is supple and compliant, and you’ve got a pretty compelling case.

from the back, the taillights remind me of a camry, and the right side shown reminds me of a IS250/350

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
Sweet looking car. Now, lets say they infuse it with about 290 - 310 HP, AWD, and keep the price around $30 big ones, then it will sell like a Paris Hilto...um, they'll sell.
