In the end, the only thing that matters is what the rubber can get the car moving to in 60s and 1/4mile time/1/4mile trap.

I'm sure Infiniti has a 4.0 VQ just in the waiting with 300+ hp, they will wait for this oh so great v8 from Lexus and then all of a sudden, boom, drop a 4.0 v6 in the g35 that just walks all over v8's.
The VQ is their world, and it will grow as large as they need.

The rumor calls for a 4.1L V6 starting at around 310PS. I dont know. It sounds too big of a V6 which might make it a "low-revver". I doubt that engine will be installed any time soon though. I am guessing the quickest will be 1.5 years from now.

The sad fact is that those 310HP probably won't make the car any quicker than an E90 6MT BMW330 with just 255HP. So while the IS fans can brag about class leading paper numbers, in the real world in won't translate to class leading performance.
With the extra weight it is carrying, the IS250 might be outperformed by even the TSX, never mind the 325, its supposed main aim. The IS250 numbers look exactly like the new C240 numbers.
Lexus keeps saying it's aim is BMW but it sure looks like MB competition in these models. The GS seems to be a better match against the E class than 5 series and this IS seems like it will match the C-class better than 3 series - not that there's anything wrong with that.

Even if the IS isn't fastest, who cares? This is the luxury sports sedan segment. Its going to be super tough to beat the whole package it provides.
1. Acceleration'
2. Handling
3. Top Quality
4. Lexus service
5. Prestige.
6. Great interior
7. Competative price
8. Top fuel economy
No car is all things to all people and this IS won't stop that fact. However, in this segment, no other car will combine all those in one wrapper. The Dual VVti and direct injection help fuel economy (tech from diesal engines).
This car is just very impressive in every facet we can look at.

im pretty excited!! This car should be tits!! I am in with the interior...and the exterior looks agressive. If they come out with a coupe and may have found my next car!! i was driving around in my cuz's RX300, about 4 years old now....not a creak!! It is extremely quiet in there.
BTW, not a huge toyota fan...but the new LEx stuff is lookin nice. The GS cars are pretty sweet IMO, too!!

To big a gap between the 350 and 250 IMO. A IS300 with ~250HP would be perfect.
The 250 is in a tough position. Its outpowered by all its competition, including the TSX which will in all likleyhood get a power bump for 06. Lets hope Lexus keeps the price down to compensate.

I am sure the 3.0L engine from the GS will be offered eventually.

It sure looks like Lexus aims to grab whatever pent up demand there is at the bottom end with the GS300 and IS250 and then within a year or so bump the HP in both cars. Both the 05 IS250 and GS300 are going to be odd-balls in the long term - single MY configuration cars - with questionable resale.
I guess Lexus saw Acura succeed at selling a under powered, overweight yet good looking sedan and figured they have a market for a few thousand a month as well.
IMO, the new IS can get by on looks alone and being RWD doesn't hurt either. But ya, I'd hate to be behind the wheel of a 3600lbs+ IS250 with AWD.

I am sure it will be available in a year or two dude. If not, that means an even more powerful version will get a manual. Remember, Lexus will try to copy BMW to the..."t".

Isn't it ironic that this car is posted on the CANADIAN website? Well ... I am trying to convince my folks to get the '06 IS instead of an ES when they trade in their 00 Volvo S70.

IS 460 Spied
Spy Shots: ’06 Lexus IS 460 - - by Brenda Priddy - - Source: The Car Connection
A Lexus IS460? Really? That's what our sources are saying. This IS prototype, caught on the Nürburgring by a tourist from Sweden, is believed to be powered by a 4.6-liter V-8.
Whatever this is powered by, the hood vents, dual exhaust, and small, integrated trunk spoiler indicate that this is no ordinary Lexus IS.
