don't get me wrong... I don't necessarily think that it won't be "sporty" just because of a 3rd row... I've seen Q7's with a nice drop and wheels and they looked dope... But, right now... my FX really drives like a car... actually it drives like a "sporty" car... I just don't know how it'll be with a longer wheel base...

Count on the EX being an SUV that's like a true sports car. Count on the FX being the same, but with a third row. As already mentioned, it'll be similar to the Q7.

Yeah. After seeing the upcoming EX, I have no doubts the FX will be as sporty as it's ever been, though a bit larger to better compete with the X5 and Q7. I won't be surprised if it out drives both of them. Personally, I'm keeping an eye on on the next M.

2009 Infiniti FX37 and FX50 Preview

http://www.topspeed.com/cars/infinit...0-ar40452.html

The 2009 FX will be available in two different choices: the FX37 and the FX50. As you suspect already one will be powered by a 3.7 liter and the other by a 5.0 liter engine.

The FX37 wil be powered by the same 3.7 liter VQ-series V6 engine engine used in the G37 Coupe and will deliver 300 hp. The FX50 will be powered by a 5.0 liter engine with an output of 390 hp and 369 lbs-ft.

The new VQ37VHR, first used in the G37 Coupe is based on the award-winning VQ engine series, named one of the "Ten Best Engines" by Ward’s Auto World magazine for 13 consecutive years. next to a bigger output, the FX37 will also use the new VVEL system which combines hydraulic-controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable valve lift on the intake side to help improve performance and response. The VVEL system is also expected to improve emissions and fuel efficiency.

The 2009 FX will have the same dimensions as the current FX. Infiniti will use materials that will reduce weight, this is why the up-coming FX will be faster compared to the current model.

The biggest changes will be made to the front of the car. The exterior will be more sporty and modern.

The exterior highlights will include flowing front fender curves, expressive front fascia with Infiniti’s signature double-arch grille and L-shaped High-Intensity Discharge (HID) bi-xenon headlights with integrated fog lamps. Also the rear will feature large LED taillights – an Infiniti trademark, refined rear bumper and an integrated RearView Monitor camera. The camera will help you to have a 360 degree view of what was around you.

Two of the most modern features included in the upcoming FX are: Slow moving traffic cruise control, meaning that the car will slow down and speed up based on the car in front of you and mirrors that will auto adjust when you move in the seat.

"infinity"???

wish they did that with the G

also, shouldn't the bigger engine and more power make it faster than the current model??

It might be heavier/bigger too. I wouldn't be surprised if the new FX gives up a little sport for a little more utility once the EX is introduced.

Normally I would agree with you, which I think would be a good thing. IMO, the next
FX should grow to accomodate a third row, and compete with the Q7; especially since the EX is coming and will effectively allow the FX for room to grow. However, the article specifically said that the car would keep the same dimensions, so we'll see...

^ It could be vague what they really mean by "dimensions". For example, it can keep the same exterior dimensions (L, W,H, wb...), the rear just won't slope as much, interior volume might go up.

And as already pointed out, "infinity" really gives it away that this might not be authentic info.

What's more telling (and more important) is the engine choices and outputs stated. This gives us a glimpse into what the next Q will be packing... a 5.0L V8 (VK?) withatleast 390HP. I say "atleast" because Infiniti has been known to shave a few HP off of it's other V8 offerings so that the flagship will have the highest output in the lineup (the M's 335HP vs. the last Q's 345HP). If the FX50 gets 390HP, then the engine will be capable of over 400HP. Whether the next flagship gets the magic 400HP mark remains to be seen; if it's not given to it at launch (a bad decision, considering how critical this car is to Infiniti's future), then they'll save it for a refresh to keep sales moving. Regardless, I look forward to the next gen M37/50 in addition to the next Q50.

from the V-6 they are only giving 300bhp, so from the V-8 it should have 420bhp, just imo

Hopefully the reason why the VQ37 only has 300 instead of 330 is because they tuned the engine for more torque instead of hp. We'll see though

Oh and I really want to see an Infiniti flagship, that thing would be so fucking bad ass

This sorta doesnt make sense with the dimensions. All rumors have said that the FX will grow in size significantly since the EX will be basically the same size as the current FX. Also, i dont think its credible considering the spelled infiniti wrong

I'm sure Infiniti is working on the Q, and when it is ready, it will come with a bang, as with other Infiniti cars in the current line up.

Definitely. I think the next gen Q will trump the others in the class, much in the same way the M trumps many in it's class in many ways.

i can't wait to see this too. i don't know why though that Nissan has to make all the headlights look the same shape now on all their cars and suvs. the g35 sedan, g37, and e35 all have that same front headlight shape. i think the m35 and m45 also have the same headlight shape too.

Indeed, the new LS will be hard to beat IMHO. But if any make can bring the goods needed to battle the LS, it is Infiniti.

As conservative as Lexus is, Infiniti is the opposite in a way that it is more bold and aggressive. And those attributes, in my opinion, are key to going head to head with the Germans. In my perspective, Infiniti cars are the only Japanese cars that have the "Pimp" factor like Mecedes, BMW.

I agree. The LS is awesome. But IMO, the exterior is somewhat bland. And the car continues to lack soul... However, those are some of the reasons it sells so well; it's very luxurious, but plain vanilla, so it appeals to the largest group of customers possible. Infiniti's approach is more dangerous, because it's just the opposite. It's designs are now edgier, and more polarizing. Many people either like it or don't like it, instead of saying "it's a great car, but it doesn't move me," like Lexus. Infiniti has clearly stated out loud that it's target is BMW, and it aspires to be a Japanese alternative to them. If they succeed in that mission, in theory, they will surpass Lexus. Unless the cars catch fire, regardless of they're unique styling (like BMW), Infiniti may not pass Lexus in the sales race. However, I think Infiniti would be happy to be seen as having the cache' of driving prowess likened to that of BMW.

I only wonder what happens after the next gen Q debuts. We know the Q is coming, and Infiniti will then again have a proper luxury three sedan lineup. With the new EX coming and the next gen FX around the corner, the crossovers will be out the way. The QX will be redesigned really soon, hopefully for the better. What's next for the lineup? I think a highend coupe is needed; and not a "four door coupe," but a coupe. Either a coupe/vert version of the M, to compete directly with the 6-Series (and to a lesser extent the CLS, A7). Or, a Halo roadster, such as the SL or XLR. This car could be based on the new GTR, but be totally unique to Infiniti, much as the XLR is truly it's own car and not a Corvette clone. Not only would it be very cool for Infiniti to have the roadster, but it would also be a great aspirational car to showcase globally, as Infiniti continues to expand around the world. After another two door added to the lineup, there are many possibilities to expand. That, though, is where I think Infiniti should move next after the rest of the lineup get's settled.

i don't really mind the continuity in the headlights. pretty much all makers are doing this now. whether it's the headlights or grills. plus i like the headlights.

and i agree with the the posts above that say that infiniti is more aggressive and dangerous with their designs than lexus. that is, to me, one reason why i prefer infiniti to lexus.

the LS' exterior is bland, and it, indeed, does lack soul. but that's lexus, and that's what's expected, really. it's still a great car, but ultimately, it just depends on what you want and what you look for.

Infiniti to put new kind of hybrid in FX

hope this isn't a repost...

One of the knocks against hybrids is that they're best around town, but once you get on the highway, it's back to full-time fossil fuels. Nissan is developing its own hybrid tech that it plans to launch in the Infiniti FX, in which the electric component will assist the engine at highway speeds as well, not just around town.

We don't know how close, if at all, it will be to the hybrid system in the Porsche Cayenne -- that (as-yet-untested) one can run the vehicle entirely on electric power at 75 MPH. Nissan's offering is slated to arrive some time in the next decade, presumably in the next generation FX. When it does, that will put at least four different types of major manufacturer hybrids on the roads, making their way through streets also littered with clean diesels. When we get that kind of concentration, the shakeout will really begin to decide who'll win the altpower war.

Post 2009 Infiniti FX 55 spied with virtually no disguise?

From Leftlanenews...

Didn't know Infiniti was planning a redesign to its popular FX crossover? Maybe that's because no spy photos have been taken of the vehicle — at least until now. While there is a debate over the authenticity of the photos, they appear to be legitimate.

A new report published in the Dutch press suggests the car will debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The accompanying images — taken by a magazine reader rather than professional photographer — show the restyled people-mover with virtually no camouflage.

The nature of the '55' powertrain remains unclear, however it could signify a hybrid system or a range-topping 5.5-liter V8. A 3.5-liter (FX 35) or 3.7-liter (FX 37) variant is also expected. Past trademark filings suggest the top-of-the-line FX will be called FX 50. We'll hold judgement until the official debut.
