V-8 starts at $44,500, the V-8 sport $47,200. I got it to 53k loaded. GREEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAT buy, IMO.
V-6 starts at $39,200, the V-6 sport $41,900 and the AWD V-6 $41,200.
Aluminum is only available on the sport models. Wood is an option on ALL models.
The V-6 AWD says 270hp+ so the RL has the HP advantage. But the RL better not be more than $43,000 stock.
I wish Lexus would have more info on the GS, I guess they want to see what the competitors are gonna do before making their final move.

Smart move by Lexus. But they're definately missing the buzz the m45 is giving me at this very moment.

I also think the M45 is as much of a "niche" car as the RL. You can't honestly say that the inside of the Infiniti will be a universally appealing concept, nor will the entire back end of that car. To me, the M45 is either going to be loved or hated, styling wise. Maybe the RL is playing it safe, on the outside, but that's the entire segment. With its new, useful, attention-getting features, more power, expensive materials, (hopefully) excellent reliability, and SH-AWD, the RL is a true luxury car.
Still not understanding why this car leaves you scratching your head... but then again, you aren't really a fan of the Acura line, at least in comparison to the other luxury marques, so I suppose it's expected.

That white leather looks good. Its not perfect but its an Infiniti that finally has the luxury/looks/and most likely performance to get a foot in the market. Too bad they don't have a 6-speed to match Lexus.

Talk about listening to feedback.....
In one of my posts on freshalloy last nite, I mentioned that the "Build your M" prices listed on the Infiniti web site were about $3K high to be realistic. Lo and behold this morning the Infiniti site prices have come down $3K on the standard M35 (from $42,200 to $39,200). That's spooky.
I wonder if Infiniti will now offer an MT, since I (and many others) asked for that too!!!
One thing that seems to have been ignored by everyone (and not hyped much by Infiniti) is that the new M has an ACTIVE rear suspension. Like the SHAWD in the new RL, the system adjusts the geometry of the rear suspension depending on driver input. It will be interesting to see which system provides the best handling.
Like I said before, once someone gets close to the "Ultimate Driving Machine" driving characteristics (like the new M and RL could) the air might slowly start to come out of BMWs sails, cause on just about every other factor (price, realiability, looks) the competiton has it beat.

Best handling with an active rear suspension when its rwd.... honestly - the rwd will always perform better.
And yeah, they are changing prices and such on the infiniti site almost everyday - LOTS of people are emailing infiniti about colors, options and price... infiniti is listening

What's an active rear suspension? As opposed to a passive rear suspension?

The Infiniti site says that the geometry of the rear suspension is modified by little motors to adjust to driver input and speed. I'm not sure if this is gimmick or how much any of this makes a difference in handling - but I assume they spent the money on engineering and production because it does something. Maybe they resurected the idea of 4WS a la the 88 Prelude. Maybe someone at the NY show can get details.
#179
OK...not quite understanding it, but OK...
I'm getting lost when you say geometry...what does it mean? Like the shape changes to somehow balance the car?

Infiniti's going back to their gay ways. They just upped the prices of the car ALREADY. In a day. I guess I they saw all the hits and think people will pay more for it. Fuck that.

The V-8 is now $47,900
THe AWD V-6 is $44,300

I'll buy a cheaper Infiniti not an evenly priced or more expensive one.

um sick, those prices were up yesterday. Look at my post on the last page. I don't think they would up the prices because of # of hits in one day....my theory is that they originally posted those cheaper prices as a mistake and later corrected it. Perhaps they didn't change on your computer because your browser stored the old version in your cache

Hey sicklex as an aside, do you have price info on the new GS? I guess Lexus will not be cought up in this kind of pricing/features experiement. They will decide that behind closed doors.

If Lexus offered an MT on the GS3XX then it would be a tough choice between the M35 and Lexus. The current base GS300 is right at $40K. Assuming it comes with the same amount of stuff standard as now or the M at the same price it would be real tough. Like sicklex said - at the same price I'd probably have to with the GS.

The 1st gen GS 300 was 44k in 1997.
The 2nd gen GS 300 was 37k and the GS 400 44k in 1998.
Mind u the car was a step and a half better than the old one.
So we have more features, a lower price. Lexus always has been about offering the same features for a lower price.
The latest RX 330 changed that some, it starts at 35k (same as the old RX 300) but loaded 48k.
With competition from Infiniti and Acura (though Lexus aims for Benz/BMW) I think Lexus will price it slightly higher than before.
The ES 330 starts at 32k, the old ES 300 started at right under 30k.
And people are BUYING them in droves. So whereas Lexus had to price their products much lower than BMW/Benz 10 years ago, today the brand is established enough to price their vehicles near BMW/Benz.
A loaded E500 is near 68k as is a loaded 545. I see the GS being
GS 330-39k starting, 44k with NAV etc
GS 330 AWD 42k, 46k with NAV etc
GS 430 48k (the current GS 430 is now a 48k car starting), 56k with NAV everything.
Still much lower than BMW, Benz.

That's crazy.. I told my friend about how reasonable the prices were, and he looked at the site today and thought I was crazy. I didn't know if I was losing my mind of if they upped their prices. I guess I'm not going crazy.
Come on Infiniti.. That's not right. At those prices, you aren't going to move many of these

I see most folks refering to the next GS as the 330 assuming it will use the same 3.3L V6 as the ES and RX. But I saw in a few reputable places that the new GS will use a new 3.0L V6 w/245 HP (making it still the GS300) that's not used in anything in the US.
Recently I've also seen the possibility of using the 3.5L V6 (I guess making it the GS350 - so then just about everyone will have a 3.5L 6 including M35, MB E350, BMW 535, RL - talk about parity) that's supposed to go into the Avalon. What gives?

Biker, your correct. The 3.3 liter V-6 is for FWD vehicles. THe RWD GS will use another 3.0 V-6. I think it is a great move, as for instance, the VQ is an outstanding engine, but there is nothing luxurious having the same engine in 10 other cars.

That whole scheme over there is just wrong. They won't know anything about what the market will bear until the thing is in the showroom. I still can't believe people are paying $10K under MSRP for an M today. I assume Infiniti is still making a couple of bucks at that price. Talk about misjudging the market and inflating the MSRP.
Based on other cars, the base M35 can't be any more than $39K. I'm sure they can make plenty of money selling it at that price. Heck, the real price of todays M45 is less than that .

Though I don't think those prices are insanely outrageous, they are on the pricey side. Even if they weren't as cheap as what Sick posted yesterday, they still should be a couple grand cheaper at all price levels.

The price for the v8 right now is 44.5, v8 sport 47.2, they're only estimates.
Its funny how people want Infiniti to use quality parts throughout their cars, but they don't want to pay more for them.

My 2 cents, the G35 sedan for 30k is an absolute stunning steal, for 35k, I'd shop around. Same for the 350Z.
They should start it at 35k and have the V-8 model for 42k, that would COMPLETELY SHOCK the luxury sport sedan establishment.

You guys, they're playing around for the prices just to see how people react like you biker - It will be priced competitively - but it's still a year away so I'm not too worried about the pricing.
