Not exactly what you may be thinking, but these two articles highlight a fundamental difference between Japanese and American automakers. I pulled this from TOV.

Maybe that's why the RDX costs so much...
But it was a great move for Honda. The vertical integration makes them more knowledgeable about their business and will help create stronger loyalties, which lead to more controlled costs even in difficult times. This is definitely taking the long-term approach to the business and I applaud Honda for taking this difficult approach.

Honda is clearly motived by the economics mainly, and it's long-term economics, not short term.
Honda's stock price reflects the company - solid, steady paced growth. Now, only if Honda is willing to take the challenge and introduce RWD Acura sports sedans.

Honda does creates excellent and stunning vehicles having top-rate parts like Honda catalytic converters. This is a good move for them. Just hopeful that the trend will continue this other half of the year.
