It's like Honda lets these press releases go so that they get a pat on the back.
You put your pants on all by yourself today? Good job!
You tied your shoes? Awesome!!
How about some real fucking news!!!
This just in: I hate Honda more than Honda hates me.

really hoping this civic is compelling against the Focus RS and VW R... I'd love to consider something like this for my next car, may end up having two child seats in it for the times i need to drive my kids, but need storage as well which pretty much negates the functionality of the hatchback...

If you are going to have two child seats, you should definitely go for FoST/FoRS/GTI/VW R.

I bet the Honda marketing lurks on auto media social media pages and read all the hate on the Honda fanboy comments.
I'm like on every auto related social media page, every time the media releases the info on this CTR, all these hateful comments floor in.
Honda probably thinks the car won't sell here.

Looking back to when we had the ITR, it put out slightly less power here in NA than it did in japan. I think it just came down to emissions. The NA model still delivered on all fronts though and was a blast to drive. A rocket for its time.

It's hard to say at this moment as the Type R that we will be can go either way. The way I see it is that the North American Type R will be based on the 10th gen Civic. That platform will be shared with the Accord, and my understanding is that it can take SH-AWD, and will have proper rear suspension, rather than torsion beam as found in this Euro CTR.

See, I dunno. There has never been, at least to my knowledge, a Type R that didn't deliver. While the car may put out slightly less power than the Japanese/euro version, I don't think it will be a bad car. I just wish we get the hatch version, which doesn't seem likely.

What was bad about it? I just did some reading into it and I keep seeing the same thing- Clarkson didn't like it, but besides him, many many others loved it.
It was put up against the Renault Megane 265 and was rated the better car, it seems.
Also, this- Stig rated it #1:

Check out these two clips. For the first one, notice how the drift king, who is well known for his awesome driving in the rain, is struggling to prevent the FD2 from passing him. He was even using handbrake as the FN2 keeps on understeering. The FD2 driver was very relaxed on the other hand. You can see how he keeps on letting off the throttle early, so viewers can see how much better the FD2 is. And when he went for the pass, it was so easy.
The second clip simply shows the big gap between the two cars in a timed run.

It's not that we hate the car. It's that we hate Honda and all their bullshit schemes and denying us a Type R, after relentlessly begging for almost 15 straight years and numerous iterations of the R. People are skeptical, is all. It's no different than the NSX and that thing, apparently, is making its way here in a few months.
It's just that Honda fanboys ruined the Honda image online so much so that there are sooooo many Honda haters on the social media.

You honestly think they know whats going on outside their building??? They (Honda/ACURA) have been clueless for god knows how long to many many vehicles. They need to fire up the old computers, connect to the internet, and actually take a walk outside and get real people that arent blind, def, or have a combined IQ of 6 for their focus groups.

I'd like to see the same comparison from a stand still though, not starting the lap from top speed. I bet the RS3 would be first, then the M3 and the Civic last.

The thing is, most time attack runs are from a flying start. Keep in mind that the more powerful cars still have an advantage from a flying start since their starting speeds are still faster (i.e. the Civic might be starting at 70mph, 75mph for RS3, and 80mph for M3, or something like that.

yes too bad we will never get this over here...
lol sandbagged the M3.....well...the fastest Nurburgring time for the M4 is 7:52, and its 7:50 for the Civic Type R. I thought this test provides another proof that the CTR is a really fast car on a track.
The point isn't really about the CTR beating a M3 by 0.2s. Give the cars to another pro driver and the M3 might beat the Civic by 0.2s. The main idea is that the CTR is right up there with some of the more well known sports cars in terms of track performance despite being way down on power, with rear torsion beam suspension, and most importantly, with Fail Wheel Drive. It's just sad we will never see it here....

It's not all about the power anyway. And that's not even the point.
The point is that we don't get the freaking car here. Who cares if it's fast enough to be competitively ran against more expensive cars?
It's not a secret that the Type-Rs have been fantastic to drive on the track.

If you think of the power the M3 has compared to the Civic. Then the times for the Honda are not bad. If only Honda crammed a V6 into the Civic, we would see fireworks!
We know Honda has the technology to do this, but the bean counters won't let that happen.

You guys are taking this way too seriously.
It all comes down to the track itself, tires of course and the driver.
Small tracks with more sharp turns will favor small light weight cars.. with or without power, does not matter.
Big tracks with more straight will favor faster high powered cars like M3.
FWD cars are easier to drive fast until you hit the wall of physics. RWD cars are faster as long as you have the balls of steel.

Black Tire, i think this 2.0T in the Civic is more powerful than any Honda V6 at this moment! And I really don't know if the car can handle even more power with FWD...lol....may be with SH-AWd...
Yea, Sport Auto did a 7:52 in the M4, vs 7:50 of the CTR from a Honda test driver. Granted, different days, different drivers, different conditions can all affect the final figures. But again the point is that the CTR is a very capable cars.

I love GTR and i know it is super fast around corners but i have my suspicion on the type of car they used. Is it 100% production model? tire choice, bias? (manufacturer driver vs. 3rd party) and many other things into consideration.
Same thing with the CTR.
I would not be surprised if manufactures (not just Honda) use the ring time as a marketing tool rather than a realistic performance #s. They can claim XXX car did it in 6 minutes flat! Yes it is true it did. But they would not disclose "Oh by the way, the boost has been up 50%, with racing tires, fuels and professional time attack drivers and stiffer springs/shocks and etc...)

For the Civic, they stated that they added in safety roll cage, and to compensate for that added weight, they removed AC and some stuff to bring it back to the stock weight. And the tires are production tires, etc.
But yes, verifying these times is pretty much impossible since there are so many factors.
This AutoExpress track battle though shows us what the CTR is capable of and in a sense makes the 7:50 Nurburgring lap time more legit.

I see so they did not say anything about by adding roll cage it also increased the car's rigidity among other things.

The unfortunate (and anecdotal) takeaway from all this is that Honda has still failed to incite much excitement in the enthusiast group, at least here on AZ. You can't blame them for not offering it here. How many of us are drooling over this CTR? It's like the 'Ring lap time is irrelevant, almost.
Look around this thread. I see S2000 owners. Some of you would rather spend $20-25k for a 8-year old Honda - that was $35,000 new - over this brand new CTR, which I'd guess would be around $27-32k. I'm in that group too.
The fact that it isn't offered here is irrelevant. There are many other new cars out there on the market that people would flock to first. No way I get a Civic Si over a Fiesta ST. CTR over WRX? Tough one.
