We've been waiting and waiting and waiting, and time after time the scheduled remake of the Ford Ranger has been put on hold - and this is no exception.
Although there are yards of vinyl covering crucial styling details, the model year 2006 only brings a facelift and freshening to the aging Ranger.
An all-new Ranger, codenamed P273, is now expected to arrive around 2010.

Ford unveils 2007 Ranger in Thailand
Ford today officially unveiled the 2007 Ranger for the Thai market. The truck in an entirely new model, unrelated to the vehicle currently on sale in the United States. Last week, we cited a report that indicated the new Ranger would not come to North America. Rumors have suggested Ford will discontinue the Ranger line all together in North America. The Thai Ranger is based heavily on the 4-Trac Concept shown late last year.

First N/A doesn't get the Euro Focus, now this. Does Ford want to suceed in N/A. The Thai Ranger would liven up Ford's lower priced truck segment and this would be a true competitor to the Nissan, Honda, and Toyota.

I don't understand why Ford needs different product lines in different parts of the world. Wouldn't it make more sense financially to sell the same Focus and the same Ranger there and here too? I saw an episode of Top Gear with the Focus ST, that car appears to be alot more competive than the Focus they sell here. Why not just make the same Focus here too? I understand the need to adapt to different markets, but others can do that with the same model, they just put different options on the car. For example, the Corrolla is ensentially the same car across the world, no?

The ridgeline starts at 27k because Honda only offers one model, that may make it a niche vehicle for Honda itself, but not overall because there are a lot of 4-door trucks that could be priced in the area of the Honda while offering similiar features.
Not really loving the exterior of the thai ranger, interior looks decent.

The only reason we do not see a Euro-model Focus or a Asian-model Ranger is because they figure that Americans, in general, will not buy it up in droves. And you also have to consider safety and emission features which differ between markets, which often contribute to the styling and design of the vehicles. Until they get better focus groups, we're stuck with the crud they believe that Americans will want to buy.
Besides, the JDM Corolla looks nothing like the USDM Corolla. Or even the Euro Corolla. You should have picked something like the RAV-4.

After almost 30 years and 7 million trucks, Ford will quit making the Ford Ranger compact pickup on Dec. 22, according to the United Auto Workers 879's June-August newsletter seen by Drive On friend Mike Levine at Pickuptrucks.com.
That UAW chapter covers workers at Ford's Twin Cities assembly plant in St. Paul, Minn., where the Ranger is built. The plant is slated to close when Ranger production ends.
"We are scheduled to run until December 22, 2011. The Leadership of Twin Cities Assembly Plant and its members thanked the UAW and Plant leaderships' for their support during these difficult times for our plant," said the newsletter, according to Levine.
Ranger production began in 1982 for the 1983 model year. The truck replaced the Ford Courier, which was based on the imported Mazda B-Series small truck. Ford wanted a scaled-down, lighter pickup than its full-size F-Series pickups -- one that could work hard, get good gas mileage and compete against small Japanese trucks such as the Datsun and Toyota pickups, and the U.S.-built Chevrolet and GMC S-Series pickups from GM.
Instead of replacing the Ranger in the U.S., it will push the F-150 with its new, higher-mpg, 3.7-liter V-6 -- which is a more profitable product for Ford. However, an all-new Ford Ranger for global markets elsewhere goes on sale later this year.

I would have thought a very efficient Ranger would be the way to go. I can't count how many people have come into our dealership to buy a Kia sedan or SUV so they could keep their truck or get rid of it. A little turbo 4cyl pickup would probably sell, though the 4wd system for such a power plant most likely doesn't exist for ford. Hell do they have a turbo 4cyl? i dont even know.
I do know this country needs a really efficient truck, the f-150 may do it, but they could make something smaller and more efficient at the same time.

They make 4 cylinder turbos... and there are rumors of a 4cyl turbo Mustang, which isn't a first. One of the reasons the SVO was discontinued was due to complaints from stock V8 owners getting their ass handed to them.

Dodge seems to be taking the Dakota to a more full-size platform, and good luck to Chevy with their Colorado that was just named a worst buy. Ford really [had] something with the Ranger for the reasons you mentioned. I do have a buddy with a stripped F-150, only option is 4wd. It does have the rubber floor.
